Automatically add songs from removable media

I want to set up a music server appliance, and am considering Subsonic vs XBMC vs MPD. It will only be accessed via iPhone app.
I will have a large hard drive full of music, but I also want the ability to plug in a flash drive to quickly play new songs. Is there any way to make Subsonic automatically refresh and add media from removable USB media?
If it matters, this will be running on a Raspberry Pi.

I seem to remember the developer of iSub saying there is no API to refresh the library, but that was a long time ago.
