Abnormal MP4 Issue (JAudioTagger)

Problem Description: When adding an MP4-based podcast (such as the Jaytech Music Podcast) files download then get an error saying they are corrupt, even though they play fine in MPC-HC, VNC, and even the Windows 8 metro Music app.
Troubleshooting Steps: Looked through logs, found links to JAudioTagger. Looked through JAudioTagger JIRA which suggests this issue was encountered in an older version of JAT.
Playback Application and version: N/A as I cannot even get to the stage of playing the Podcast through Subsonic.
Subsonic Version: 4.9 (build 3853) – January 23, 2014
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_51, Linux (56.3 MB / 324.0 MB)
Hardware Platform: Linux (CentOS v5.9, latest packages via yum update)

Output from ffmpeg -i: The file is deleted upon failing in Subsonic, though I have run this on a copy I downloaded from the same source, on the same machine outside of Subsonic (via wget).

This problem is absolutely driving me crazy

Last Subsonic box I had a few months ago was running v4.7 and I had this podcast added without issue.

Any ideas guys?

I added the podcast and had the same issue. I tried update the version of jaudioparser, and it still throws the same error (though it did seem to fix some of the issues I was previously having with certain files). While looking through the ffmpeg log you put there, it looks like it is actually a video file:

M4a is a audio file format. The podcast feed needs to report it is a video, not a audio file so that Subsonic doesn't try to look for audio tags on a video file.

That line just means ffmpeg detects the 300px album artwork in a file. To avoid those warnings you can add "-vn" to the transcode options.

Everything you posted from that log is a warning, I don't see any errors. You're using a very old version of ffmpeg, you might fix the warnings by upgrading it to a recent build. What happens exactly when you try to play this file in Subsonic?

I didn't realize CentOS came with such an old version of ffmpeg! I've built it from source now and am currently on ffmpeg version N-61202-g8dfd0e6.

Unfortunately neither that or adding -vn resolved the issue. If it was just this one podcast it would be alright but it's any podcast with m4a files in it (despite it saying 'not a valid mp4 file'). I've even got a couple where they have swapped to m4a's and I have all the backlog of mp3 episodes and all the m4a's are errored out Also, the file plays through the Subsonic web player both from the Podcast management section and the actual Podcast folder, so it's definitely only an issue with the tags being read out of the files...

If I were to build Subsonic from source could I merge in the current source of JAudioTagger without issue do you think?

If your willing to build from source I was able to fix the issue with the change to PodcastService on https://github.com/daneren2005/Subsonic ... 794b2af0e0. I tried updating to the latest jaudiotagger version, but that didn't fix it.

I tried downloading that podcast, and I see the same errors, but the episodes still play fine; not sure why they would get automatically deleted on your system. The only problem I see with playing these files in Subsonic is the progress bar is inaccurate.
