Thank you for this, working well on my Chromecasts with my server on the local network, so much easier then firing up media center to play music from my collection now.

I do have a question regarding the implementation. Does it stream to the Chromecast from the android device or the server? I get the impression (because the files download to the device) that it's streaming from the device. If so, do you plan on having it stream directly from the server in the future or is this not possible unless/until it's implemented on server itself? I hope that makes sense. Thanks so much for the great work on this app.

I just tried it out and it doesn't download the song while its in chromecast mode. Are you seeing something different? Right now it only streams straight from the server. I am currently adding support to play directly from the device, but that is not for everything. That is just to support offline play.

Okay, so I tried it out again, and you're absolutely right, it seems to be playing from the server. I think when I initially tested it i had started playback on the device first and then selected chromecast playback so it started caching all the files on my device. This time I selected the Chromecast before selecting an album and it works perfectly. Thanks so much for the swift reply and keep up the great work.

I see that it works for my official chromecast, but for some reason it doesn't see the cheapcast app, even though other chromecast enabled apps do see it.

Also, there isn't a refresh button on the chromecast list. Does it do an autorefresh of the list?

Cheapcast probably just hasn't been updated for the new SDK yet. Either way all of the discovery is handled by googles code, so I can't control whether or no it shows up. The picker dialog is also just the standard one. When you enter the now playing screen it starts auto scanning for new devices

When playing from my nexus 5 and using a subsonic playlist, it seems to play a couple of songs and then just stops and shows dsub on the tv. It was 2 songs once, and then 3 or 4 another time.

I can't seem to find any kind of pattern though.

Can you send me a log when it happens? It might just be getting a error. I have found that my nexus 5 has horrible WiFi performance and just cuts out sometimes where nothing else I own has any issues.

ok. I'll try it out on my n7 and see if it does the same thing. I'll also capture a log too.

Someone else is reporting the same issue in a store review. I got it to happen once, so I think I just need to leave it running for a while to reproduce the issue.

Edit: I guess I lied. Sometimes it appears that it frozen but it does start after a moment. Have you tried leaving it for ~10 seconds before fiddling with it?

I get the same thing, though it seems random. Sometimes I can get it to play a whole album, but many times it plays a song or two then stops, and just says "DSub" on the TV. I've left the room for 15 minutes and come back and it still wasn't playing, so it can't be just a delay in starting. If I wait long enough, the TV switches back to the default Chromecast screensaver, as if it got disconnected. The DSub app on my phone still thinks it's connected, so I have to disconnect it and try again (though, after disconnecting, I have to close DSub and reopen it for it to see the Chromecast device again).

I'd be happy to provide logs, if you would tell me where to find them.

Is it just crashing on the song though? When it stops, if you try to start on that song again does it still fail? So far I have only found one time where this happens, and it just flat out refuses to play the song at all so that isn't a client problem. But with how often you guys are coming across this I doubt that's it, just worth asking. If it does work after you try again, can you check if it is repeatable? Ie: play the same album again and it dies at the same place?

It's definitely not repeatable. A particular album I play a lot, sometimes it'll play all the way through, and sometimes I have to coax it along for each song.

Whenever it stops, it's at the end of the song. It has never cut out in the middle of a song. DSub shows the progress bar at the end of the song, but acts like it's still playing (there's a pause button). I can hit the Next Song button to get it to move on and play the next song. But in most cases, it gets stuck again after that next song, unless I do the Chromecast disconnect/reconnect thing.

I haven't yet tried getting it to go back and repeat the last song it finished after getting stuck, I'll let you know when I do.

Alright, then yes that is definitely not a ChromeCast issue. I will try to look into it more. I might need to add a build with some more debugging information here so that when it happens I can get enough information in the logs.

Do you guys happen to be in the store Beta channel? I just pushed a update that has a bunch of fixes for the ChromeCast, and I want to see if it also fixes that particular issue for you guys.
