Cannot connect over 4G

Postby muzikmark » Sat May 03, 2014 3:40 pm

Problem Description: I have been using Subsonic for quite awhile. Usually it works great but occasionally I lose external connectivity on mobile devices.
Usually a reboot or just opening my router login webpage would resolve it. Not this time. I can connect over Wifi and I can access my Subsonic web page.
But I cannot get the isub app to work on my iphone over 4G. Again, it works fine through the local wifi network.

Troubleshooting Steps: I have rebooted, opened my router page (which may not be set up correctly), I have unchecked the automatic router set up in Subsonic
and re-checked it again after no success. It does seem to be a port problem but I can't figure it out. I did have issues with ports before.
Subsonic is enabled on my firewall.

Playback Application and version: I am using iSub Premium app on an iphone 4S

License Subsonic Premium
Version 4.9 (build 3853) – January 23, 2014

Server Version: (copy/paste from the "About" screen in the Subsonic Web Interface)

As explained in the tutorial

You MUST have port forwarding set up correctly to get to Subsonic from outside your network.

Go the Http://Canyouseeme.org and test port 4040 (or the port you use for Subsonic if not the default), if you can't see the port as open - you can't connect - just that simple.

If it's not open, post the make and model of your router and the manuals are usually available online so that someone can assist you.

Thanks for the response.
This is very frustrating because I always have followed the setup guidelines carefully.

I used the Portforward software to assign a static IP address.
Using that addressI have opened ports 80 and 4040 in my router. Netgear WNDR3400v2.
Very easy to do and I have checked port 4040 with Canyouseeme with success.

On my Subsonic server webpage I have unchecked the box to automatically configure the router.

I still am unable to access Subsonic through my 4G network.

The real headscratcher is that it was working okay before. It just stopped the other morning. Poof!
It has hicupped before but was always easy to get back on track.

I appreciate any help as I absolutely love this service!!

There should be no need to have an entry for port 80.

Verify that the INTERNAL ip is correct both on the router AND the host machine.

If Canyousee me is reporting that the correct port is open, try using the EXTERNAL_IP:PORT# format on your phone to connect rather than the vanity name.

e.g. http://98.117.180.120:4253 If you're on Tomcat you may have to add /subsonic - http://98.117.180.120:4253/subsonic

If that works, then you need to go to settings network and SAVE to re-transmit the vanity name to subsonic.org.

What exactly happens when you try to connect over 4g? Do you get to the logon page? Do you get any error msgs. The more detailed your description of what you see is, the easier it is to identify the problem.

Thanx Gary.
The only reason I added port 80 is because the Netgear router instructions to setup Subsonic said to.
I have removed it now and the only thing in my manual port forwarding is port 4040.
When I login to the webpage from my laptop this is the address in the bar:
https://localhost:4443/login.view;jsess ... vb220ih5uf?
I can login in fine this way also. Just not on my iphone app anymore.

On my phone I continue to receive the "Server unavailable" notice when I attempt to open the app over 4G.
I tried doing the external port login as you suggested but was unsuccessful in that regard also.
Hopefully I entered everything correctly on the address line.
I really appreciate your time and efforts in helping me solve this!!

Just wanted to add I cannot see anything on 4443 or 4040. I would disable https and resolve the 4040 port forward secondly, after stopping and restarting SS service firstly.

My isub app on my iphone is now working great over 4G!

THANK YOU, GARY!!

We needed to add a port rule on my router to open port 4443 and make sure it was using the same ip address as port 4040.

Thanx again!!!! :D 8)
