Subsonic with tomcat, mysql and owncloud

Postby Kuljitsingh » Wed May 07, 2014 9:35 pm

Hi
It is not mentioned on the site which database subsonic uses (if it uses one at all)
Planning to Install owncloud as well.
Is it possible to have this setup?

I would really appreciate if someone can shed light on databases Subsonic is compatible with? Specially if it is compatible with MySQL
Are there any tips I should follow to have it configured with Tomcat and MySQL?
Do I need to install ffmeg and lame separately? If yes, what would I have to configure in tomcat?
I apologize, but I am noob. :-(

Subsonic uses an embedded db called HSQL or something similar to that.

Chickenbits, Are you new to reading English? I asked if I can install Subsonic and use MySQL in the back-end as database. And yes I went through the article 2 days ago but I guess you didn't read it!! The article is not integrating Subsonic with MySQL!!!!!

daneren2005 and GJ51, Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate the help. I read it some place after posting here that Subsonic uses HSQLDB. Was hoping latest version of Subsonic to work with MySQL or Postgre sql. I'll use subsonic as is with Tomcat and HSQLDB. I guess it would be less complicated to figure setting it up with MySQL for now.

Music Cabinet integrated Postgres into the Subsonic branch, but the developer has been dormant for just about a year. So, it can be done, but as you suggest, it's probably not worth the effort. I've been running the Tomcat version on Windows server for years without any problems.

The major db complaint is getting a 503 error, which admittedly is a PITA, but I haven't seen one of those for years. I think the major reason those happen is due to an improper shutdown, either due to holding the power button to force a shutdown, software upgrades/installations gone wrong, power failure, or anything else you can think of that prevents the db from closing the files properly.

Thanks for confirming it is not worth the effort. Though I hope to see some concrete solution from SubSonic based on the issues you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up information on those, and also for providing possible causes of the problem. This is very helpful information.
