Android player App V 4.2 - cache link broken on JB device

Postby mw0cqu » Tue May 06, 2014 8:08 pm

Hi All,

just a quick note that my android app upgraded to 4.2 today via google play , and whilst it may have fixed problems
in kit kat , it dropped the ability to specify the offline cache folder when it installed to my Jelly bean based GTi-9100
(Samsung galaxy SII with stock KIES updated JB )

The cache size could still be specified
The hide from other apps could also be specified
but no cache path customisation menu option was visible

situation recovered by uninstalling 4.2 and regressing to 4.1 manually using the APK downloaded from an external sourceforge link

JFTR device is:

Samsung GT-i9100
android 4.1.2
kernel 3.0.31-889555 dpi@DELL224#3 SMPPREEMPT FriMay31 18:59:34 KST 2013
Build No JZO54k.i9100XWLSY

cheers

'CQU

PS - Sorry if this should have been in the 3rd party clients section but I put it here in good faith

Same here on Samsung S5 stock ROM.

I had specified the path to /mnt/extSDcard/Android/data/... but now when I go to offline mode I see no tracks although they still exist on SD card and when I download they go to /mnt/sdcard/subsonic.
The option for specifying the cache location isn't there anymore :-(
This is pretty critical for using the app offline so I don't eat up all my internal storage.

Model: SM-G900F
Android: 4.4.2

Just noticed that my tab 2 10.1 (gtp-5100) is similarly affected.

Regression to the previous apk (and setting auto updates off) recovers this though

Just tried the 4.3 apk from sourceforge.

It re-adds the menu option and accepts the cache location as valid, but when you select "offline media" and "refresh" it
provides no list of playable content.

Ive performed a full uninstall of 4.2, prior to loading the 4.3apk

Ive also verified that the 5gb of cache content is available and playable from other apps.

All media ok.

Tested on a JB based GTP-5100 (GSM 32gb model)

Could a mod please edit the thread titleto reflect 4.2/4.3 issues please ? Or should I raise it as a separate thread against 4.3 please ?

About to regress to 4.1 and test

Regressed to 4.1 and issue is resolved, cache content playing normally.

(this was still on my gtp-5100 - not testing on the GT-i9100 until it works on this one (Sorry Sindre!) :D

Curiously....

When i uninstall / full re-install it takes about 2 minutes per action.

When i overwrote 4.3 with 4.1 it took about 15 seconds to complete ?

And when i regressed, my first server settings were persisted, my second was lost [only took 15 seconds to re-add]

Hope this helps

This has been fixed in the updated today. The path is auto populated too which makes things easier.

Cheers!

Not fixed here in 4.3.1 sadly im afraid.

Yes the cache location was auto detected

when local media is selected No files are visible

Hit refresh - no change.

Using a file manager i cut and pasted one album into the subsonic "default cache location" [different folder on sdcard0 not 1]

restarted subsonic , selected offline media , checked the cache location - the correct one [i.e. my one not the default] was specified in the settings
Menu.

Selected "use offline" , there was the single album that i copied to the default cache location

Hit refresh - no update. Still the single album

Uninstall and manual regression to 4.1 has fixed this for me

Hope this helps

It saves it in a slightly different structure, under a directory called files iirc. Try streaming something and see where it is cached on your sd then move your albums to the same place.

At the risk of sounding rude [not my intent]

Surely the point of having a user configurable cache path is that the app works to the users preferred location and not the other way around ?

If ive told the app {absolutely} where my files are , why should i move them elsewhere? Or expect them to be in
An unspecified subfolder ?

Sorry - I expect 4.1 performance out of 4.3.1 and contend its not fixed

I think it's probably to do with the changes to newer Android versions where apps can only write to one directory on an external SD card.
On my new phone nothing can write outside of it's /mnt/extSDCard/Android/Data/XXX directory unless you root your phone.

Ok...I fully removed subsonic player 4.1 and all of its legacy folders

I reinstalled 4.3.1 directly from sourceforge

when a manual cache location is specified e.g "/storage/sdcard1/musicfiles" as potatochip observed, an additional subfolder is created below it, called "music"

It is then "/storage/sdcard1/musicfiles/music" that the cache writes to.

But if this is a "feature" then the path specifed in the GUI menu needs updating ? [With maybe a popup explaining that the additional folder will be created? and why its needed ? ]

I have to say though , to my mind it looks more like an artefact of code testing made it into the release ? ;-)

Think i'll regress to 4.1 again , but i notice 4.1 doesnt send tag data via bluetooth to my pioneer car stereo, so maybe i'll see if thats fixed in 4.3.1 and decide whether to rewrite all my sync scripts instead.
