Feature Requests for UltraSonic

Sorry I posted this bug report here. The original post in the Ultrasonic forum (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11303) has a link to submit bug reports that leads to this thread.

Anyway, I figured out what the issue is on my own. I assume more people are going to run into this with any of the Subsonic streaming apps on Android, so I'll post my solution here and will create a new thread as well.

The latest Android 4.4/Kit Kat update for the Samsung Note 3 and Galaxy S4 DISABLES the ability for "unofficial" apps (i.e. not pre-installed by your wireless carrier, Google, or Samsung) to write to the SD card.

Subsonic apps will install and work correctly if you leave them with their default settings to use your device's internal memory. However, if you specify your external MicroSD card (/storage/extSdCard) as your storage for any Subsonic Android apps, it will stop working with the following symptoms:
-The app will operate normally and will connect to your server and list the artists/albums as usual.
-As soon as you play a file, it will download and display album art, but the song won't play and either stops completely (the official app) or repeatedly count from 0:01 to 0:04 without playing anything (Ultrasonic).

Unfortunately, the only way around this is to root your device and restore the permissions for any apps to write to your MicroSD card with an app from the Google Play store called SDFix.

This is completely dumb. I'm not sure why Google and/or Samsung would do this, as it renders your MicroSD card useless for anything but what your carrier, Google, or Samsung deems appropriate.

I would like to request an autoplay mode, where when you start the app, it automatically starts playing music, whether it be you entire library on shuffle, or a specific playlist.

Is there a way to sort the Artist page alphabetically in groups? As it is right now I have to scroll thru all the A's B's C's etc.

Not sure if this is already a feature but I was unable to find the setting after looking several times. I was wondering if there was a setting to suppress notifications by other applications while music is playing. I would assume this does already exist since the subsonic app had this? Any help finding this would be great since I get a lot of emails that are ruining it. I love this application by the way and have started using it way more than the official app mainly due to the no more skipping issue.

Could you please implement more support for MusicCabinet (even though its discontinued atm it's really great)
Atm Genres are not loaded at all and I can't use folder browsing (MusicCabinet is based on tags)

I have another idea (simple feature):
Could you make a number besides the recently added category (like besides the notification in Facbeook). Then you could make it display e.g. the number "3" if 3 items have been added since the category "recently added" was browsed the last time.
Then you dont have to check each time and can see directly if there have been updates.

I'd like to request the addition of a search button on the main screen, it could go next to the shuffle button in the unused space. Everything else about this app is great and that feature is really the only thing I prefer in dsub over ultrasonic.

Support for Server Name Identification (SNI).

I have subsonic behind an Apache proxy that also hosts multiple other services. In order to get ultrasonic to work, I have to make sure that subsonic is the default virtualhost and disable SNI checking which is somewhat insecure. I believe this can be fixed by using SSLCertificateSocketFactory in place of SSLSocketFactory (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/SSLCertificateSocketFactory.html), although I admit to not being familiar with Android libraries.

Wanted to say yes I would really like this as well.

Google now is able to launch the play song intent handler which is extremely useful for handsfree playback.

However, it can also send the artist and album intents but these are not handled correctly.

Instead of playing all albums buy an artist, the search plays the first song matched by the artist.

Instead of playing an album, the search plays the last song of an album.

Playlists would seem to be a bit more difficult. m3u files refer to the local device and can't be opened with ultrasonic (or many other apps).
Google now also does not have this kind of support built in.
