Transcoding broken on OSX 4.9 and 5.0 of subsonic

Postby c0manche » Mon Jun 09, 2014 8:02 pm

on 5.0 beta 1 transcoding is broken also on 4.9 transcoding does not work on OSX 10.9

this includes mp3 to mp3 transcoding using ffmpeg for bit rate changing

any idea on how to fix this? as currently subsonic is basically useless at the moment because of this bug got my whole family complaining as they can't play music via the mobile app anymore

Same issue on Linux version of 5.0 beta 1.

Downgraded back to 4.9 and transcoding works once more.

hmm, it's not broken for me. can transcode mp3 to aac from a ubuntu server 14.04 lts and subsonic 5.0.beta1 (build 4048) and plays on osx 10.9.4 fine, via chrome.

just tried it with safari, no problems either once flash is installed.

The problem is when the server is running on OSX

The same thing is happening to me - I am on Mac OS X 10.9.4. I installed a new hard drive so I had to do clean installs of all my apps. With Subsonic I have tried 4.9 and 5.0.beta1 (build 4024) and transcoding is not working. As a test I downgraded to 4.8 and transcoding worked fine as always. I went back to 4.9 and also 5.0beta1 and transcoding stopped working again. The server is fine and sends files but only with Max bitrate set to No Limit - everything I have set to Recommended configuration.

I am seeing these types of errors if I try to transcode:

[7/16/14 7:49:30 PM EDT] DEBUG TranscodeInputStream Starting transcoder: [/Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg] [-i] [/Volumes/2TB/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Stereo MC's/Connected/09 Pressure.mp3] [-ab] [128k] [-v] [0] [-f] [mp3] [-]
[7/16/14 7:49:50 PM EDT] WARN RESTFilter Error in REST API: EofException
[7/16/14 7:49:50 PM EDT] ERROR JAXBWriter Failed to marshal JAXB
[7/16/14 7:49:50 PM EDT] ERROR RESTFilter Failed to write error response.

For now I will stream without transcoding as all my files are mp3s and I mostly use wifi and the iSub app. But it would be nice to find out what is going on or how to fix in case I do want to transcode again. Thanks

I found a fix for myself (OS X v.10.7):

- Downloaded and installed Subsonic v. 4.8, confirmed transcoding was working properly
- Made a copy of the folder /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode
- Downloaded and installed Subsonic v. 5.0 beta 1
- Started Subsonic, confirmed transcoding was broken, then quit Subsonic
- Made a backup of the folder /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode, then replaced it with the transcode folder from v. 4.8
- Restarted Subsonic, confirmed transcoding was working properly again, this time with the 5.0 beta 1 interface

Hope this is helpful.

I followed your steps, as I'm having the same issue, but I still cannot get playback. My subsonic system runs on OSX 10.6, so perhaps that's a relevant difference. The error log indicates that "b:a" is not a recognized option in the transcoding command when using ffmpeg from the 4.8 install. What transcoding and downsampling commands are you using?
