Playlist Limit

Postby jewahe » Sat May 17, 2014 5:37 am

Is there a limit to the number of songs allowed in a Playlist?

My music collection contains some 22,500 tracks, and I often want to just start it up and let it shuffle through the songs. However, I tried importing a playlist, and it pretty much crashed my server.

Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in hearing an answer to this as well. My main playlist is only about 4500 tracks, and the web UI becomes non responsive for quite a while when trying to manage a playlist even that large.

I sure this has to do with the amount of memory your server has plus the amount of memory Java is allocated for it. Tomcat default setting is 128 mb...it can be up'd, not sure about jetty.

I have over 44,898 songs loaded and I build genre categories of about 200, there are only 24 hours in a day, if each song were 5 minutes....that's only 288 songs.

I made one giant playlist of all my favorite songs/albums and sync that entire playlist to an old(er) Android phone with an SD card. This way, I have a portable music player to bring in the car or on a plane that gets automatically synced via Wi-Fi. I do any playlist maintenance via the web interface, so while I don't really listen to music that way, it needs to be responsive enough for me to make whatever changes are necessary.

That being said, I never thought about increasing the allocated RAM. My server has 8GB, so I'll try bumping up the limits and see if that helps out.

Hey,

I have some pretty hefty playlists (see attached file) and they load fine... they do take a while to load but they do in fact load. I then use the iSub app on my iphone to stream to my rental car (I travel like crazy) so that I can listen to good music anywhere on the planet.
