Apache 6 Trouble

Postby gerstejp » Sat Jul 25, 2009 3:39 am

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
I am trying to install Subsonic on Windows Home Server (the .war version)
I have installed java and Apache
I cannot get the Apache Tomcat service to "START"
I know where to go to actually start the service either in control panel or on the Apache console.
I just cannot get the service to start. For what its worth, in properties I am also unable to change the startup type to "automatic" in the general tab.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi gerstejp,

first of all you need to clarify your terms here: are you simply trying to install (aka deploy) the .war file using Apache Tomcat in a Windows environment? What is your operating system?

The startup of Tomcat 6 under Windows is 'buggy', as it is trying to access a non-existant file on startup. If your firewall settings are all taken care of (opening the right ports) maybe provide us with a log of your Tomcat. My guess is it will tell you "Failed to Create... jvm.dll".

1. Check that the Java folder is setup correctly using the Tomat Configuration Tool (the one where you also press "Start" to startup the server)

Try again if it was set incorrectly.

2. Copy the file msvcr71.dll from Java's bin directory to Windows\system32 and maybe also to the Tomcat bin directory - first one should usually do the trick though.

Let us know whether that worked or not.

ff

ff-
wow...that actually worked. The service started right away. Thank you so much
Now one last question. I am now supposed to run tomcat manager and then select the subsonic.war file. Any guidance here.
I am running windows home server which i believe is the same as windows server 2003.

Glad it worked.

You'd just follow the installation instructions for the .war file on the sourceforge page. Basically you stop the server, drop the .war into the webapps folder of Tomcat and restart your server. Deployment should start automatically, you then look at your "localhost" page and under "Manager" should see that Subsonic is indeed deployed. You will be able to access it at localhost/subsonic.

Sorry, I am not using Windows Home Server, so I cannot help you there - maybe someone else has input on this. It would be good if you would post your solution in this thread once you find it.

For it to show in the WHS Console it would need to be an add-in. There are requests made for subsonic add-in development.
