Chromecast Support

Throwing my name in the hat. I just purchased DSub because of its Chromecast support, but I am also running into the StartSSL bug. My server uses a valid (according to most browsers) StartSSL cert but DSub gives me the "Failed to load message"

I'd love to try out the test APK as well. If you want to send it my way, I can create a shared Dropbox folder for you to upload it into. Thanks.

Hi all,

I am using the latest Dsub for Android and 5.0 beta version of Subsonic. I can't send any music to my Chromecast: I keep getting "Failed to load".

Subsonic is running on a Linux server and I am using HTTP. Dsub has absolutely no problem accessing and playing music and the only thing which is not working is the sending to a Chromecast.

Any idea of what I need to do to make things work?

If you upgraded to the Beta recently, can you make sure you delete the music you are trying to play from DSub, and download it again make sure it does in fact play fine? I know there have been a ton of people who can't get stuff to play correctly after upgrading to the Beta 1. I would also try rebooting the Chromecast, since that has helped a lot of people with strange issues as well.

Thanks for the tip. But I forgot to mention that (1) I was having the same issue with the previous (non-beta) version of Subsonic and (2) I've tried clearing the cache many times with no results.

I have noticed two things though:

(1) If the track has already been cached and I'm running Dsub in offline mode, then everything works fine and I can listen to the song(s) through my Chromecast.

(2) If Dsub is in online mode and, irrespective of whether the song has been cached or not, I get 'failed to load'

In the logcat, I see: E/ChromeCastController(): Failed to load: Status{statusCode=SERVICE_MISSING, resolution=null}

The key information here is SERVICE_MISSING and is being sent to the logcat in ChromeCastController.java (line 343: Log.e(TAG, "Failed to load: " + result.getStatus().toString());)

Looks like there is an issue with the RemoteMediaPlayer! Do you have an idea what could be the reason for the SERVICE_MISSING? Please note that I routinely use Plex, YouTube, Google Music, etc. with the same Chromecast with absolutely no problem.

Phew! I've found a solution to my problem!

In the server settings for Local network address, I now use the local IP address of my Subsonic server. Previously, it was a FQDN which I was resolving with a DNS server I run at home and which is not publicly available. For some reason, this was causing the Chromecast to fail to get the track (presumably because it was using the Google DNS servers to try to resolve the name).

It doesn't surprise me that the issue turned out to be a DNS issue. The Chromecast uses it's own DNS server. In fact, if you block their DNS server at your router the Chromecast will refuse to work at all. Just as a PSA to anyone else who comes across your work around, that will not work with an https address. If you are using an https address DSub automatically ignores the internal ip since the Chromecast will reject it (the internal IP will not match the server's certificate).
