I don't think port 80 is being properly forwarded, as I scanned the public IP that you have in one of your screenshots and it isn't showing any open ports. You might have to cycle the power to your modem once the port is opened so the policy takes.

Your router could have a built in firewall. You might want to check that. Have you tried accessing your Subsonic from anywhere else than work (besides inside your LAN of course)?

Have you tried another port? 8080 for instance? You could try going through the motions, now that you know what you're doing, and set it all up on a different port from scratch.

The verdict is in! I've set it all up properly. I sent my friend the IP address and port to plug into his browser and it works!

The bad news... I talked to a buddy of mine in IT today (happen to cross paths). Apparently they have such a nasty firewall up that he said there would be no way for me to get this to work from my job... HURRAY!!!

I appreciate everyone's assistance with this. Now it's off browsing for a decent, inexpensive, reliable, portable, external hard drive... :x

I seriously doubt this. Try streaming one song from the Subsonic demo server. If that works you can do it too.

Start demo

Thanks Jigsaw, but something is definitely up with the connection from work. I can stream from the link you've posted, but there must be something different between that link and my own.

I tried testing some basic stuff out on the work PC. I cannot ping any websites. I found an on-line pinging service and was able to ping the IP address of my home PC from work.

Other people are capable of accessing my subsonic from their own PC's at home so it must be set up correctly. There has to be some truth in what my IT buddy was saying.

If you know of a work-around, I'm all ears!

If it works from your friends house then it should be setup correctly yes, but I do assume you are not using any custom port or the tomcat port 8080 for this? The subsonic demo is running on the standard http port 80 which is usually open at most work places. It is not unheard of that ping is disallowed though, so that doesn't explain much.

I am using a custom port. Should I switch everything back to port 80? Do you believe this will clear things up?

I'll give it a shot when I go home and see what happens tomorrow. Thanks again!

Ah! Yes that is most definitely the problem. It is quite common for it-departments of both large and small companies to block everything except port 80 for their employees.
If you really need to use a custom port then you could use a free online proxy ( e.g. one that supports port 80 from here http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html ).

PS: I hope you remembered to disable the remote administration on your router so that you do not get that problem again :)

Finally! I was able to get to the log-in screen here from work. The port must have been the problem indeed; thank you!

Now I've run into another issue... username and password error when I attempt to log in. I know for a fact that the info to get into subsonic is exactly the same as the info to get into this forum. I have no doubts in my mind about it. To boot, I've logged in at least a hundred times from home, so I know I'm not screwing anything up.

Read all of the help topics on this issue and will attempt to reset everything when I get home... Why does it seems as if this program does not want me using it?!?!?!

Ok, so for some reason the username and password miraculously worked after typing it in over and over again. I know what you're thinking, "the idiot was just typing it in incorrectly"... WRONG! But that's beside the point.

So now I'm in and everything is the same as when I set it up at home. It just doesn't do anything when I click on:

Play
Play All
Play Random
The Play Button next to each song
The Add '+' button next to each song

In other words, it will not let me create a playlist. I have to download each song individually. WTF?!?!?!

It seems your browser at work might have some java restrictions. (I'm assuming here that you do, in fact, have java installed?!) Which browser are you using? Will you be able to try another or have your IT department limited your Windows account?

As for username and password, you might want to consider adding those to your bookmark URL. something along the lines of:
Code: Select all
http://www.YOUR_SERVER_OR_DOMAIN.com:YOUR_PORT_IF_SPECIFIED/login.view?user=YOUR_USERNAME&password=YOUR_PASSWORD

And another thing. Keep in mind that usernames and passwords are case sensitive. ;)

I think you have your router configured so it can be managed from outside using port 80. Go to the same screen where you told the router to accept logins from the internet and change port 80 to something else like 8080 or whatever.

It's very likely the router doesn't have the error checking to tell you of this conflict.

Good Luck.
