Can't acess subsonic from anywhere other than host(solved)

Postby ferozen » Wed Oct 22, 2014 3:12 am

Forgive me if I'm asking this wrong, this is my first post.
I haven't come across any posts that match my issue, so I'm posting here. It's always been that the user could only access from one place (internet or home) but not the other, or had no access whatsoever (couldn't access the browser page).

I donated then setup Subsonic yesterday on the computer i would like to use as a server, and at first I was getting some kind of httpconnect connect error when trying to setup my personal domain. I turned my VPN off, and made sure all my ports were open, which solved that issue. Although the webpage says the domain is successfully up now, I can't access subsonic from any other device other than the host. This includes local computers on the same network, my phone on both the local network and LTE, and computers on a different network. I tried many solutions, including opening up the port and disabling auto port forwarding, setting a static IP, and allocating more memory to no avail. Using localhost or the domain was not working, the web page would load until it said webpage not available. I attempted installing and setting up subsonic on my laptop for temporary use to see if it would make any difference, and the exact same thing happened.

The general gist of what I got for most threads was that something is probably blocking it from being accessed. I made sure I had an exception in windows firewall, and used different ports just in case. Alas, anytime I use canyouseeme to check the port it always says "could not acess, connection timed out". I realized connecting from the internet and from inside the network were two different things, and I was confused as to why i couldn't even access it inside the network. I assumed it was just some sort of router issue, and I reset my router today, and only setup network security and the ports I need for my Vonage phone service. I then setup the port forwarding for subsonic, and it still did not work from anywhere.

At this point I am stumped, I don't understand what could be blocking it from being accessed from inside my network. Can anyone help me out with this? I already donated for Premium so I want to make sure I can get this to work.

Thanks

The router port is not open if canyouseeme cannot see it. Reboot your router after making 4040 open. Then test.

I've done that multiple times, with different ports and different computers. It still gives me the same results. Port forwarding shouldn't be affecting my ability to access it from inside my network, right?

If you are trying to get to the server from inside your network, then port forwarding isn't going to help you at all. That's only for accessing the server from outside your network.

And as far as accessing only from the host, there's a DNS issue on the service that Sindre uses which causes this.

From a PC inside your network (but not the server), you have to use the internal IP address and port number, or the PC name and port number to access it. If you try using your xxxxxx.subsonic.org address, it will always resolve to the computer you are on, regardless if that is the server or not.

Using the internal IP address does not yield any new results, I still get "This webpage is not available". I put in "192.168.1.xxx:4040", is this the right way to do it?

That's the correct way, but if your lan cannot connect, you'll need to revisit the Windows Firewall on the host, which of course should be a static IP.

That fixed it, like the thread said windows firewall was blocking it. Thank you very much for the help!
