Today Subsonic 5.1.beta was released with these changes:

New: New video page, with preview thumbs.

New: Refreshed design.
New: Added "shuffle play" to album lists in home page.

New: Sort artists using locale-specific collation.
New: Updated Estonian translation, courtesy of Olav Mägi.
New: Show avatar in upper-right corner.
New: Removed external ads.
Bugfix: Video playback broken behind proxies.
Bugfix: Wrong aspect rate for shared videos.
Bugfix: Configure Windows firewall for all network profiles.
REST: Added getSimilarSongs and getArtistInfo.

thx for the new beta. the new artist bio info is a great feature,
but the artist radio underneath doesn't work.

Hi - As luck would have it I was trying to resolve a DLNA issue with subsonic 5.0 - couldn't be seen by Windows 7 client (DMR) but could be seen by BubbleuPnP.

I saw the new Beta1 - downloaded and installed. It's fixed the DNLA issue (my Subsonic Server is XP SP3) - great. However a couple of other observations:-

1. Web Browser(Chrome) Home screen - default 'Random' media - I have more than one media folder (two actually - Music and Videos) - If I have have 'All Folders' selected then the 'Random' home screen (at login) works fine. However if I only have one selected (typically just 'Music') then the 'Random' screen doesn't work - (however it does attempt a refresh at 10 seconds) - no errors - just no content. (I've checked with IE 8 - same)

2. The new layout with the play list queue above the player - regardless of auto-hide - I've noticed that if you use the Chrome browser then Chrome's status bar (typically bottom left) overlaps the Player details and it looks rather untidy (I guess previously it would have overlapped the last song in the playlist - but for, whatever reason, you don't notice it. (it also overlaps the last line of the alphabetic library selection - I guess it always did that - but I use the one at the top).

3. Also I have NEVER been able to get videos to play in SS at all - I've always had the error 'File not found or access denied' in the JW Player. However I've fixed it now - nothing to do with this release though and I'll post it elsewhere. Transcode settings have to be changed - but no documented fixes anywhere for me - so I did it myself.

I use Subsonic everyday and have done for years now - I love it and it works reliably for me in every way. I now have a new telly and hence the interest in the DLNA server - now working. Interestingly not working to my standard Samsung client on my phone (but my Windows 7 server out of the box works fine) more investigation required.

Running on Debian7-stable
I stopped my existing Subsonic 5.0 installation - service subsonic stop
installed the latest Subsonic 5.1-beta - dpkg -i subsonic-5.1-beta1.deb
The new beta installed and works flawlessly. After a brief break of video functionality in 5.0, video works out of the box again.

I liked the design refresh!

This will correct itself once the media library is rescanned.

Yes, I totally agree. I am planning to re-do the whole player interface, then this will be less of a problem.

tiny little buglet to report (i think).

after upgrading to 5.1b1, i'm unable to change the default theme anymore. it just stays on what i originally had it to begin with.

i'm attaching a screenshot to hopefully illustrate what i'm talking about.

I love all of the new features, I didn't know that I really need them , but now I won't miss them anymore.

Okay, if that's what it's referring to (I was expecting directory listing..this is a full media streamer now and not just music...artists implies it's something special it's doing to sort audio files)..then I'd be okay with that.

It's really difficult to tell though...because this forced thumbnail mode is pretty much impossible to navigate when browsing for videos.

Unless I'm completely missing something...how do I :
A. Disable thumbnail mode and browse by title only (filename)
B. List files AFTER folders. That would at least force the thumbnails to the bottom until A can be resolved.

Is it also possible to ad your own artist bio with foto by adding a .nfo file and .jpg to the artist folder? That it overrules last.fm data when it's there.. Would LOVE it, because most of my artists are not on last.fm.

Can you please take a look at the upnp/dlna feature and make it support xbmc and other mediacenter software? Would be perfect....

I believe its also possible to send other data with your music when using upnp? Maybe the artist info and a fanart.jpg or something.
