Managing Subsonic on an iMac with multiple users

Postby GrahamJClark » Tue Dec 02, 2014 5:26 am

At home I share an iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) running OS X Yosemite with a couple of other users.

I want to use Subsonic on my Samsung Galaxy S4 when I'm out and about to listen to the music that lives on the iMac at home.

In particular, I want to be able to listen to my music at all times and not have my music disappear from my phone when someone logs into the iMac at home.

Therefore, I installed Subsonic in the iMac's Macintosh HD>Applications folder thinking that doing so would ensure that I can always access my music even when someone else is logged in.

However, in reality, I can listen to the music that lives on my iMac on my phone anywhere when I'm logged into the iMac at home but as soon as another user logs in my music disappears.

Have I missed something? Or does Subsonic not work in this way?

If someone else logs in on your iMac under a different username then essentially all the apps that you had runnning (including Subsonic) will close and the new user would log in afresh. You could try making Subsonic start up automatically after login - go to System Prefs, Users and Groups, Login Items and add it there. If you do it in the admin account then it should load for all other users automatically. You would of course have an interruption whenever that user logged you out and logged in as themselves.
