Subsonic 5.1 released

Postby sindre_mehus » Sat Jan 17, 2015 11:01 am

The final version of Subsonic 5.1 is now released. The only difference from 5.1.beta2 is some improvements to the new list mode.

Thanks,
Sindre

Thanks Sindre! Truly an awesome product. I have been very impressed with the 5.x series so far. It is much quicker than the previous 4.x series.

Loving the new artist info API. I am seeing a error which could fairly trivially be handled by Subsonic though with the data it gets from Last.FM. A good example is the artist Coheed & Cambria. Last.FM complains if you have it as & instead of and. What Last.FM sends is:

Code: Select all
Incorrect tag for Coheed and Cambria. Keep stats clean by fixing your ID3 tags, or leave auto-correction on. Coheed & Cambria on Last.fm.

This seems like it should be fairly trivial to search for and fix automatically. When pulling data from Last.FM, check for the case where it returns 'Incorrect tag for '. When it detects this case, the Server should automatically follow the tag for what Last.FM thinks you meant. It would also be nice to have some way to manually edit the metadata sent, but that obviously is a lot more complicated because you have to add UI stuff for it. Just automatically applying the fix should be good enough for 99% of cases.

Hi Sindre,

great release! Thank you!

I really miss the combined view of List and Covers though. Is there a chance we could have this combined view again? I think the Coverview lacks clear arrangement whereas the list view wastes a lot of space on wider screens and is not as visually pleasant.

The Artist info is really great and beautiful but it results in mixed content warning when using ssl because subsonic includes links from last.fm directly. Would it be possible that the server fetches the artist info and then presents it to the client from "itself"?

Also I have noticed that subsonic binds to some ipv6 ports. Actually I configured subsonic to only listen on port 4041 for SSL connections. Do you know why this happens?

Code: Select all
tcp6       0      0 :::9412                 :::*                    LISTEN
tcp6       0      0 :::58057                :::*                    LISTEN
tcp6       0      0 192.168.178.3:4041      :::*                    LISTEN
tcp6       0      0 192.168.178.3:38447     :::*                    LISTEN
tcp6       0      0 192.168.178.3:54038     :::*                    LISTEN

Upgraded today, added some new albums, and a buddy called saying songs were stopping after a few seconds of playing. Logging in as him and viewing the log, here's what it showed:

Is that helpful at all, or is there something else I can look at to determine what might need fixed/changed?

If you were to add this, I'd hope there'd be a way to turn it off. I'm sure I'm not the only user who spent a huge amount of time getting my tags exactly the way I want them (Beets is a great tool). Beets pulls from musicbrainz, and sometimes musicbrainz disagrees with last.fm.

EDIT: Oh! I think I was misunderstanding you. Did you mean to not change ID3 tags, just retrieve the correct info from last.fm? If so, I'm totally on board with that.

In case it helps anyone else, I uninstalled 5.1, installed 5.0 (with new settings, I emptied out the c:\subsonic folder), and the files are playing correctly again. It may be worth noting that I had never made any changes to the transcoding settings.

Hi Sindre,

Thank you for this new release, and for this very good app which I use since several years.
However, two questions:
Is it possible to choose the language for the Last.fm infos?
When do you plan to use an html5 played instead of the flash player?

Thanks in advance!

Is it normal the "Status" view isn't available anymore in the menu? I can still access the page by manually entering the page name in the address bar, but otherwise, I can't see a link anywhere else.

Hey Sindre, awesome work on the latest version! The UI changes definitely make Subsonic feel more polished and usable. Being able to drag and drop songs on the playlist is a game changer, and the video thumbnails are phenomenal. I noticed that Last.fm info is displaying for videos as well as audio. Is there any way to disable it for an entire media folder?

Hi Sindre !

Thanks for this amazing update. Loving the new UI setup. :wink:
Sadly, the Home > Random page doesn't work since I updated (from 5.0 stable). It only shows my Media folder's name and the More button .

All other tabs (Recently added | Starred | Top rated | Most played | Recently played | By decade | By genre | All) works fine tho.

Any thoughts?
