[REQ] Shuffle Albums (maintaining in-album order)

Is it possible when the shuffle button is selected to have the option to randomize the order of albums played while maintaining each albums individual order? I'm really an album listener rather than a track listener so the shuffle by album is a really nice feature of my desktop media software that I'd love to have on mobile. it would be great to have this option when shuffling playlists or shuffling a library view (e.g. an artist's page, recently added, 1950's decade, etc.).

It should already do that and is in my limited testing. Where are you seeing it not just shuffle the album order?

It does not shuffle by album when shuffling any playlist from my testing. shuffling the different library views works as desired for me already (hadn't noticed that because I figured it behaved like playlist)

Oh you want to maintain album order when shuffling a playlist? Let's me clear, are you talking about the now playing playlist, or a playlist as in one of the things listed in the Playlists tab?

I mainly would use the now playing playlist shuffle, but to be consistent I think it should work for both. Basically when you press shuffle it should give you two options: track, and album. Or maybe long pressing or option for default behavior (however you think makes most sense).

I also noticed that i'm unable to shuffle an entire library or library folder by album (defaults to track like playlists do). If i choose an artist, it shuffles by album when pressing shuffle, but not when in the parent library view.

Another feature that would augment this beautifully is skip to next album. Maybe by long pressing the skip button? since we have a progress scrollbar, there really isn't a need to fast forward by holding the skip button imo so skip to next album in playlist would be a more desirable feature.

Just a quick check and it does shuffle by album when you are viewing artist page or album lists (recently added). What program do you use that shuffles the currently playing list by album? That seems extremely weird to me.

Yes, those cases do shuffle by album correctly. The shuffle by track happens for playlists and entire library shuffling. I use foobar2000. It has the option to shuffle by album, track, or folder.



I can see how you'd consider this weird, but I think it depends on the playlist. If your playlists are lists of individual tracks, then you probably want to shuffle the tracks. If your playlist is a list of albums, than you probably want to shuffle the albums. Either way can seem weird depending on how you listen. For me I never think: I want to listen to the tracks from all these albums in randomized order. I do think: I want to randomly listen to this list of albums. Same goes for skipping. I never think: I want to skip this track (or rarely think that at least). More often I think: I'm not feeling this album right now, let's go to the next one in the queue.

It's just a different way of thinking, though I'll admit I probably am a bit weird haha!

I also am a shuffle album listener. I wouldn't consider it a high priority, since we're weird and rare, but if there was an option, I'd use it.
