Which external client on Linux?

Postby ashemsay » Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:34 pm

Hello everybody!

I need your help on finding a good external player running on Linux please :)

On Windows I use AIMP, which is a wonderful player but I can not find a good alternative on Linux. All the featured players just don't play my m3u files (I tried Amarok, juk, VLC, Banshee, XMMS, Rythmbox, ...). Actually the only one working so far is Totem, but it does not really provide a great experience with audio files (no support for media keys when not on focus for example).

I read that some of those players work well but only with HTTP, and my server runs exclusively on HTTPS... :(

For now the only solution I found was running AIMP in wine but that's not perfect, it has some bugs and I would rather avoid using wine.

I surprisingly could not find any piece of information about that, can you tell me which external player for subsonic you use on Linux?

If you want to listen on Linux, just use the Web page with the Java plugin. Its actually a lot better than the players I have tried. See if SubAir will work.

If you are listening to the server (which is on Linux) from elsewhere, any client will work. The client is independent from the server and only depends on the client's platform.
