Have MusicCabinet users tried Subsonic 5.1?

Postby jacobthe4th » Wed Jan 21, 2015 4:41 pm

I've been using MusicCabinet since it's inception, and like many users I've come to love it's ability to generate playlists of the Artist's Top Tracks and more importantly the Artist Radio. Have any of you gone back to the Mainline Subsonic, now that Sindre added the "Artist Radio" feature?

1.) If so, have you noticed anything that you miss for MusicCabinet?

2.) Has the mainline's search been improved?

3.) How about the Tagging?

Thanks,

Jacob

Ah, I just though of something else... my users list. How can I port them from the MusicCabinet install (which I believe is Subsonic 4.7, with MC 0.7.24C). I believe somewhere along the way (maybe the 0.7 release) Hakko left the Cleartext password and incorporated REST API.

Hmmm???

Well maybe I'll just have to send a email to my users, it will definitely prune my users list.

Have you compared the 2 yet jacob? I'm thinking about making the jump also. Hopefully I'll be able to get everything setup and moved this weekend so that I can give a fair comparison. As far as the moving the users, I think you should be able to make a copy of the subsonic.script file from /var/subsonic/db (or c:\subsonic\db) and paste it over the top of the subsonic.script file that will be created when you switch versions.

Are you using the installer or WAR version?

Honestly, I can't see myself making a switch any time soon. Sure, Subsonic's included the "Play artist radio", but as far as I know it hasn't gotten as far as being able to do Radio the way MC can. Plus the whole system for recommended artists and related artists (that aren't in one's music library) fetched from Last.fm is to die for. If Subsonic includes this already, then forgive me; I didn't see any of it in the installation I did from the .deb package.

Maybe one weekend I'll remove the installation I have now and redo it. Going to have to anyway since I can't exactly forward port 443 to two different ports...

From my point of view, one must-have feature is the synchronization of last.fm-loved-tracks and subsonic-starred-tracks. Especially as it can be used as restore-option for when you have to reset your server-system. You just have to sync the loved tracks and every user has his starred-tracks back. So the main reason i stick with musiccabinet is that every user would loose their starred-tracks on a change to subsonic / madsonic.
