I have a small number of alac (m4a extension) tracks in my collection, along with everything else being encoded at 320Kbps and mp3 format. I followed the advice to disable transcoding on the Sonos player in order that files are sent natively to the Sonos without transcoding.

After having done this I then cannot add any non mp3 tracks to the queue.

If I disable the encoding without reloading the Sonos controller I still get the drop-down icon to add the track to the queue. When attempting this I receive a message telling me the tracks are not available for streaming from Subsonic.

If I reload the Sonos controller the option to add these non-mp3 tracks is totally gone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Screen shows attached, I had to resize to submit but I think they still show the problem ok.

Thanks in advance.

Phill

Thanks Phill,
I was going crazy trying to figure this one out as I have the same problem. I would love to be able to stream my m4a tracks without transcoding.
Otherwise this is fantastic and works great!

Thanks Sindre,
all works well. I am running multiple instances on the same Network and steaming native FLAC to all Sonos. It's very fast on my large Library and has a low cpu load on all instances with multiple users. It's simply the best streaming server out there. Period.
Thank you

I'm also not able to play alac without transcoding. Sorry, I'm not sure why it doesn't work. I've checked what Subsonic delivers and it looks correct.

I actually see this is not limited to alac files. I have some podcasts in lossy m4a format and they also cannot be added unless I have transcoding enabled.

Played directly over an afs or smb share all these files play perfectly.

This upgrade disabled the port forward feature somehow.

I though it was a router issue .But even if i disable the firewall, i still can't connect.I used the port open tool. And it's showing that the port is open.I have to go back to last version till this gets fixed.

I'm on windows server 2008.

@jmoonen
My bad. Thanks for the answer. Everything is working fine after update when user access is ok.

Hi, Sindre!
Thanks for adding Sonos-support. I don't use it myself, but at least one of the people using my server has asked for it in the past. However, we haven't managed to get it to function properly. Following the steps on http://www.subsonic.org/pages/sonos.jsp was easy enough, and my user is able to connect and browse the library, see the playlists etc, but when trying to play something, he gets the following error message: "Unable to play "[song title]" - unable to connect to [server name]". Obviously, he is able to connect, as he can browse the library and select songs, but something fails when trying to play files. Does anyone know what might cause this? Changing users and removing the options for transcoding on the sonos player does not help.

Cheers

Hey eric - I am seeing the same issue as your good self.

I created a topic in the General forum for this specific issue. Check it out. As yet, no one has replied. I am hoping it will be a fix coming soon with an easy solution.

Turns out that connecting Sonos players to a remote Subsonic server (outside the local network) didn't work as I expected.

I'll see if I can come up with something, but until then please regard it as a non-feature...

Thanks for the response. Appreciated. I am holding out that a solution can be found to access an external Subsonic library from Sonos. I am truly hoping this is possible as it would be a killer feature.

Is there some news on the transcoding options. Without this enabled I cannot add any m4as to the playlist regardless of lossless or lossy.

Let me know how I can help if needed.

Are people's podcast catchers working with this new version? Ever since I updated, whenever I try to play a podcast, it acts as if there is no data (you can hit play, but it just immediately changes back to the play icon). This happens for me on the web player. When I attempt to download an affected podcast on dsub, it downloads 4kb and considers it complete. The file is complete and works correctly if I use a music player to play it locally from the server.

This has persisted for multiple podcasts.

I updated from 5.1 to 5.2 (didn't do the betas at all) on a ubuntu 14.04 machine. There are no errors in the subsonic.log.

It is indeed broken and a fixed in source. Only Sindre can comment on when a fixed version will be out with it though.

I'll release a bugfix version 5.2.1 in not so long for this and some other defects.

First I want to say THANKS AGAIN for all the hard work on Subsonic. I've been using it since 2011 and it's really changed how/when/where/etc I listen to music. Really appreciate all the work you do on it!

That said, thought I'd help aid in the improvement but I also reminding you about a lingering bug re: downloading from playlists and the play queue: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15333
