Subsonic with Amahi Home Server?

Postby damato300 » Mon May 11, 2009 7:46 pm

Hello,

I am new to this forum and have just learned about Subsonic. We have Subsonic running on an Amahi server in our home and we have it in beta testing to be added as one of the applications for Amahi. If you do not know what Amahi is, it is a home server that runs on linux. You can read more about it here: http://www.amahi.org.

To my question. When we install Subsonic it defaults to C:\Music folder. Is there a way we can change that so say it would default to /var/hda/files/music/?

The thing is over at Amahi they are trying to make one click installs of the best software the web has to offer. And this is the only thing holding us up from making it a total one click install.

So if anyone is interested in making a Home Server or if you are already running one with WHS you would be really interested in Amahi.

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your interest in Subsonic. There is currently no way of changing the default music folder without modifying the source code, but I'll be happy to implement support for it in the soon-to-be-released 3.7 version.

The easiest would be to specify it as a system property, e.g.,
Code: Select all
-Dsubsonic.musicFolder=/var/hda/files/music
in the startup script.

Hi,
I'm running the Amhai HDA server with subsonic , which they have made into a one click install. Amhai is a great piece of work, by the way and subsonic looks like it will work nicely on my network. Anyway everything works fine, except I'm having problems transcoding from FLAC to MP3. Are there any tips someone can give me to do that? I read some of the Ubunto threads on how they got the transcoding working on there standalone machines, my machine is a server so I am wondering if there is a different route I should take. All help is appreciated.

Hi,

Just a quick follow-up. What you requested was implemented in the recently released 3.7 version of Subsonic.

You can specify it when starting the subsonic.sh startup script; see last three options below.

Code: Select all
% subsonic.sh --help
Usage: subsonic.sh [options]
  --help               This small usage guide.
--home=DIR           The directory where Subsonic will create files.
Make sure it is writable. Default: /var/subsonic
--host=HOST          The host name or IP address on which to bind Subsonic.
Only relevant if you have multiple network interfaces and want
to make Subsonic available on only one of them. The default value
will bind Subsonic to all available network interfaces. Default: 0.0.0.0
--port=PORT          The port on which Subsonic will listen for
                       incoming HTTP traffic. Default: 8080
--context-path=PATH  The context path, i.e., the last part of the Subsonic
                       URL. Typically '/' or '/subsonic'. Default '/'
--max-memory=MB      The memory limit (max Java heap size) in megabytes.
                       Default: 64
--pidfile=PIDFILE    Write PID to this file. Default not created.
--default-music-folder=DIR    Configure Subsonic to use this folder for music.  This option
only has effect the first time Subsonic is started. Default '/var/music'
--default-podcast-folder=DIR  Configure Subsonic to use this folder for Podcasts.  This option
only has effect the first time Subsonic is started. Default '/var/music/Podcast'
--default-playlist-folder=DIR Configure Subsonic to use this folder for playlists.  This option
only has effect the first time Subsonic is started. Default '/var/playlists'

It would be great if you could make Subsonic 3.7 available in Amahi! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Sindre

Ok we have Subsonic 3.7 installed and running on Amahi Home Server. If anyone is interested in this you should check it out. WWW.AMAHI.ORG it is a great home server and it just works. Along with subsonic there a ton of other web based apps that can be run on your home server. Come check it out or if you have questions come over to there IRC channel:

I am using subsonic in Amahi, first 3.6 now 3.7. Ever since I installed the subsonic37 package I can not access the web interface. The response I get is:

Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Apache/2.2.10 (Fedora) Server at subsonic37.70home.lan Port 80

Any idea what's up?

I am also using the Windows installer at work which works beautifully, except the cover art finder. The app finds about 1/8 of the covers on it's own and the 7/8's it can't find. I try to change using the "change" amazon/discogs search feature and it always says "no image found". I search for the album on the actual sites and it finds them, no problem. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for all both you have done to bring this application to it's current state

Amahi Subsonic 3.7

Postby nordge1 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:17 am

I am not sure why but in order to get my 3.7 running in Amahi I had to install the 3.6 version as well. Now I am able access the web interface and play music.

Most cover arts are not found and when they are searched for in the Amazon/Discog feature no image is found as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

Both Discogs and Amazon have changed their APIs, so they don't work anymore with Subsonic 3.7.

I have fixed the Discogs interface for 3.8 and hope to fix the Amazon one as well.
