Subsonic 5.2.1 (build 4428) no longer plays fixed

Postby quatermass » Sun Apr 26, 2015 7:25 pm

I upgraded my SS build to 5.2.1 and now find it no longer plays on my PC (Windows 8.1 Professional 64bit).

I select a single song to play and it doesn't.

I selected my Player to using the 'Web Player' to hear the music. But whilst the icon shows up (running Java Version 8 Update 31) and I can move the slider left to right and alter it from play to pause. Nothing actually plays.

I change it to External Player and Firefox asks me to 'open with' the 'Play.m3u' and the external player MPC opens but says 'cannot render file'.

Needless to say the Android DSub doesn't play any song. Just seems to list them.

After a bit of digging, I discovered that one of my play-lists was claiming empty, though the file itself was full of paths.
 I'd done some re-naming of some albums several months ago.

Once I deleted this play-list and restarted SS, it played back fine. I think it's a wee bug in the import routine of .m3u files at start up.

Be nice if the SS logged broken play-lists?

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Stuart, I am having a similar experience (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15555&p=67492#p67492) so I very much appreciate your posting on this. And am encouraged that you've found a fix. However, none of my playlists are showing as empty. Perhaps one of them is erroring in a different way? I suppose I could try deleting them one at a time. I would not naturally suspect a corrupted playlist though because i was listening to subsonic when the issue initially arose (causing music to stop) and I was not actively editing any playlists at the time. But I'm ready to try anything and so far haven't received any suggestions from this forum. Thanks again for posting the tip!

Deleted all my playlists. Still, no luck. But perhaps when subsonic next indexes it will fix itself? Fingers crossed. UPDATE: No such luck. Indexed. Still won't play. Back to square one and eager for any suggestions.

I also found a playlist with a path to a music file that didn't exist.

On deleting that playlist (from within the SS UI and in the file directory where I set SS to find my playlists usually called 'subsonic_playlists') and closing SS completely and restarting it and forcing a reindex, it kicked back into life.

Hope this helps.

Interesting...quatermass, when you say you "forced a re-index" as well, how exactly did you do that? Thanks again, this stuff is very helpful.

There is an option within the SS Web page in settings which when clicked upon, forces a manual rescan rather than waiting for the scheduled one.

Ahh, you're talking about the "Scan Media folders now" button...just so you're aware, that is not a re-index at all, just simply scans for new media and playlists. Re-indexing is a term used for databases, and this button most certainly does not re-index the database within SS. There are ways in db.view to do so, but that's not what you did apparently. Thanks for clarifying.

Fair enough.
Still it makes the playlists work. :)
