I'd Like to Stream Lossless Music to Browsers and iSub. How?

Postby adenzerda » Thu May 21, 2015 6:05 pm

My library is in FLAC, and I'd like to simply kick those files to my browser and to iSub. Browser doesn't seem to work if I skip the transcoding, and I haven't tried iSub yet. Is this possible?

If not, what's the Next Best Thing™ that's supported by these platforms? Is Ogg Vorbis -q10 on the table?

In short, the web browser approach will not work for this, but iSub works just fine for this. Just disable transcoding for the "Players" that are named after the iSub player. Just be aware that depending on your cell phone plan, you may see heavy data usage when streaming native FLAC....YMMV and all that. I've been streaming native FLAC files (including high rez FLAC recordings) to my iPhones for 3-4 years without issue. Thank God I've got unlimited data plan! Good luck with it.

Also, just FYI, though it's not browser based directly, many of my users use "External Player w/ Playlist" player options, such that they have VLC or Foobar2K launching automatically and streaming automatically when they choose something in the web UI. This can be easily achieved on both Windows (Foobar or VLC) or Mac (VLC). In this case, the streaming can be native FLAC or for that matter, native wav, native dsf (yes, Foobar supports dsf with a plugin!), etc. As long as the client software itself can handle it, Subsonic can stream it - "External Player w/ Playlist" gets ya done.

Great to see some users helping others out on this forum!

I tried create an external player with playlist to launch to foobar however I get this in the foobar logs:

Code: Select all
Unable to open item for playback (Security error):

The subsonic page has this URL so it is working on that IP and port:
Code: Select all
https://192.168.1.10:4041/subsonic/index.view

I would love to launch this to Foobar because of the EQ! Once mp3 works here FLAC should work too. Any ideas?

Do you have a real trusted SSL cert that you purchased and installed, or are you using a self-signed cert for your https usage that you showed there? Your error from Foobar suggests an SSL cert verification issue.

Ah, you are correct. I don't have cert at all. Its the default *.subsonic.org.
