Tasker and offline mode

Postby SenorSmartyPants » Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:04 pm

I'm just starting to play with DSub and its tasker support.

Do I need to have a DSub launch app action first and then the "start Playing" task?

When I set offline mode in "Start Playing" is there some way to have tasker set DSub back to online mode? I'm going offline in the car (and I turn WIFI off) so not to use mobile data, and I'd like to automatically go back online later. Ideally I'd like to setup DSub to never use mobile data and go offline automatically when I'm not on wifi. Is that possible?

No you only need a single action. In Tasker just create a task and add the Plugin Action for DSub, click the pencil next to configuration then click the disk icon to save. Now anytime you call that task it will start playing DSub.

There's a setting in DSub under "Cache/Network" for wi-fi streaming only.

I was't playing in shuffle and I had nothing in my playlist, so that was the cause of confusing there. But I do still have my task launch the app, cause I want it onscreen. Ideally the now-playing screen with cover art, but I haven't figured out how to do that.

I have that set. But if wifi and data are off and dsub is still in online mode and you try to browse your library to select new songs to play (for artists that are not completely cached) you get a network error.

It would be nicer if would figure that out automatically, or if there was a separate tasker action to just set the online/offline mode of DSub

There's a setting in DSub under Appearance called "Open to Tab" but it doesn't have Now Playing as an option. To do it with Tasker I believe Scott would need to have DSub accept data from the "Data" field in the "launch app" action. I don't think it currently does and last I read Scott doesn't even have Tasker.

Sure, just create a task with "If %WIFII connected" to run the DSub plugin and toggle Online. Then have Else to run the Dsub plugin to toggle offline. Then launch DSub.

Except you can only do that with a "start playing" command. I want to be able to change those settings without starting dsub playing, AFAIK. I don't want dsub to start playing online everything I get on my home wifi.

Right, but why do you need to toggle offline if you're not using DSub? You could just use a task shortcut to launch DSub from now on. The task will check for wifi, toggle offline according, start playing music, then launch DSub.

But if wifi and data are off and dsub is still in online mode and you try to browse your library ... you get a network error.

I can use DSub with Wi-fi streaming only checked while online no problem. I use DSub about 8 hours a day and it only uses about 1 megabyte of cell data a day. That's almost nothing. No reason to block DSub it.

It's really only a concern for toggling back online automatically without playing music.

I'm on Republic Wireless and I do not have a data plan. I'm not blocking DSub, I just have no data access at all when I'm out and about. I'm glad you're not having problems, but I do get the network errors like I described.
