Artist radio is definitely something I still need to add. I also will look into delaying the load until the Last. FM data is loaded.

Running the latest beta on a Nexus 10 I have a problem with artists having more than 3 albums (= 1 row) and showing the last.fm artist info: The Album picture from the lowest row gets cropped of, such that I only see the upper third of the album image and cannot read the album name and the album context menu. I cannot scroll further down. So probably there is a bug with the space allocation for displaying albums when loading the last.fm info.

Otherwise the Last.fm artist info addition is very nice! I am also looking forward to the artist radio function.

Cheers and thanks for your efforts!

I am noticing the same issue on my Nexus 7. I will take a look at it.

I am releasing the first 5.0 beta to the Beta channel. Changelog:

Moderate Material Update
Rewrote everything to use RecyclerView
Swiped up playing bar
Swiped to remove from current playing list
Colored status bar
Updated drawer
Select server from drawer
Playlists with album art
Separate sections for mine vs shared playlists
Paired down context menus
Long select to multiselect songs/albums
Updated search to look like the rest of the app
Some stuff colored based on theme (more to follow)
Better looking detail dialogs
Performance enhancements from changing to event driven instead of polling
Sleep time remaining
Add Permanent Cached song count to About dialog
Option to keep 0, 1, 2, or 3 past songs in list
Updated icon
Removed support for Android 2.3

Notes:
I have not re-implemented quick scrolling yet, but I will
I have not finished updating all of the icons to the material ones yet
There back arrow is missing when doing down a level. I am aware of it and did not have time to fix it yet.
I have had to re-write a lot of stuff. I tried to test everything pretty thoroughly, but I'm am sure there some options I missed which are broken.

I am guessing that people are going to hate that I took a bunch of stuff out of the context menus (clicking the buttons next to songs/albums). I did it because they were getting ridiculous large. I added multiselect menus to more places so you should still be able to accomplish the same thing in similar number of clicks. ex: Before you could click on the artists context menu and say play now. Now you just click on the artist and press play in the top menu.

Sounds amazing!

Thanks for the beta updates.

Here are my thoughts:

I am not in love with the red theme, can this be an optional color choice?

The lack of "play next" or "play last" from the contextual menu is a bummer, I used this feature all the time. I understand the desire to clean up the menus but it really was a nice feature.

It's not an ittue with the beta but over the last 2 months or so, I have been having issues with the bookmark not always getting set when I replace music in my library. The bookmarks getting set helps me to keep my place in the podsacst that I listen to on my way to and from work.

Forgot to mention...

I love the new auto sync of recently added tracks. This is a killer feature.

perhaps you've made more changes since plastikman's comments, but i don't see a red theme {(EDIT nevermind, it's part of the dark theme), and i still have the ability to play next/last by selecting songs and using the menu at the top. however, the podcasts section still appears to have bugs with this regard (i can't press and hold to select a podcast file, each individual podcast file menu still shows Play Next/Play Last, but these options don't appear to do anything). i agree that being able to add files to the current play queue is very important.

I'm also seeing visual issues after using the multiselect feature, as soon as everything is deselected either by pressing the back button or something else, my status bar goes transparent and everything shifts up (i'm on 4.4.4, so i don't have the cool color changing status bar, but it looks like this library is trying to force it or something). Here's a screencap: http://imgur.com/Iv903I1

not sure if this is a new bug or i just didn't notice before, but my playlists are now using the large album art (which makes sense, because i have that checked in the settings) and it looks great! but the context menus for the playlists don't indicate which ones i'm keeping synced, all of them just show the 3 dots. clicking on the context menu gives me a clue, since it asks "stop syncing" or "keep synced" still, there's just no icon change like elsewhere in the app.

also, some suggestions for the hamburger menu: since this is now where you select which server to connect to, it would also make sense to move the offline mode into here, and eliminate an extra step of going "home" to switch to offline mode. this would then warrant a change in the name of the "home" screen, since it's really now just a collection of music categories and not as much a homescreen anymore (especially if it's not what you set the app to open to).

the app is looking really nice so far, can't wait to see the finished product!

I got to try the beta over the last few days, here are a few comments :

* As others have said, super nice icon, great job redesigning it!
* I'm getting the same crash as wikke when going to the "Downloading" tab.
* Starred songs do not show up in offline mode. You can still add a star which is later synced properly, but you can't see which songs are already starred unless you go online. This was also the case in the stable version.
* Is it possible to have a "Star" option when selecting multiple songs?

Overall this is a great app, thank you for taking the time to keep it up to date!

I fixed the podcast section inconsistencies.
I am pretty sure I found the problem with KK, but I do not have a device to test. I did something special on Lollipop after starting the multi select mode and I reverted the change on everything instead of just Lollipop because I didn't realize translucent status bar's were added in KK.
I fixed the playlists not showing which are synced.
I added the offline button to the pull out drawer. That was the initial intention, I had just run out of time and decided I should do a Beta release instead of waiting for absolutely everything to be in.
I fixed the crash on the downloads tab.
I put back Play Last in a few places as a context menu item. It should be a decent compromise between putting everything back and not cluttering the context menus. I also put back a few more for Artists since they only had a single item (Star/Unstar) and so had some more room.
I intend on beefing up Offline mode in general at some point. Definitely not in this upcoming release as this has been mostly visual updates and large shifts in how things are done that I am trying to do in one large sweep.

Now for some questions:
1) How often do you really want to mass star songs? That seems like something which wouldn't come up that often. I'm not sure if I want to turn the overflow menu options into an even larger wall of options either.
2) What color would you consider goes better with the dark themes? I honestly just picked one from http://www.google.com/design/spec/style ... or-palette and I thought the red went well with it.

PS I hope to release Beta 2 with what I have in a couple of days. I still haven't bothered to fix the missing back arrow or put in fast scrolling and I wanted to get those in before the next Beta release.

re: dark color scheme, I would stick with blues, keep a consistent feel for the app.

I am more than happy to test the next release for the status bar fix :)

I also noticed that swiping to remove from the play queue (a super awesome feature) only works in one direction. I feel like it should either work the same in both directions, OR a more complex version would be separate actions per swipe direction (one side removes it, the other moves it to play next in the play queue or something like that. Similar to the Gmail app, where one swipe archives and the other deletes, with that friendly icon and color cue that's revealed from under the label you're swiping.

That second thing sounds hard, though. And not fully thought through.

Also, i don't know if you would prefer that i open issues in github instead of just listing bugs/suggestions here, or if you prefer to just catch up on stuff in the forums. if you have a preference, please let us know!thanks again for such a super epic app.

Re: Mass staring, for instance if I add a new album with a lot of tracks (OSTs often have tons of small-ish orchestral pieces), right now I manually select and star each one, which is really slow. I actually don't use the "Permanent cache" and "Delete cache" items that much, I prefer using "Star/Unstar" with the "Sync Starrred" option on so that Subsonic knows which tracks are on my phone.

A suggestion could be to merge the "Cache" and "Star" menu items if that option is active, or alternatively to add that as a separate option, but that may be out of scope for a beta.

Anyway, being able to just click and download songs from my library is already a huge improvement over what I used to do a few months ago -- manually converting FLAC to MP3, then transferring songs via USB and deleting them through the file explorer ;)

Re: Dark theme, I am personally not a big fan of the red color either. Some kind of light blue would be much better on the eyes.

By the way, another thing I noticed is that DSub still shows an old artist name with Unicode issues. I fixed it in my library, then selected "cleanup database" in Subsonic, which no longer shows the old name, but DSub appears to remember both versions. The artist had no cached songs and was only displayed when not in offline mode.

I get a crash when clicking the notification that tells me new songs have been synced to my phone. I can probably generate a log if needed.
