DLNA: server visible, browsing files possible, not playing

Postby dpomt » Mon Jun 08, 2015 7:01 pm

Was so happy to see DLNA now is supported. Just activated the feature.
Tried on different devices (HW, SW) - can see DNLA server on all and also browse the Directory/file hierarchy. However, trying to Play just does not do anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm seeing the same. I just picked up a new Samsung 6500 smart TV. I was delighted to see Subsonic show up automatically as a source! I can browse folders but when I try to play media (mp3, avi, etc.) I get "Please check network connection." I don't see anything in Subsonic or Tomcat's logs. I tried forcing Tomcat to IPv4 wondering it was not working with IPv6 or something - but no luck.

I'm willing to help debug - but I'm not very familiar with how DLNA should work. I've tried tcpdump on the ports it looks like Subsonic is listening but I don't see any traffic. I would *love* to get this working!

Ah - I figured the issue I was having. I tried with VLC and saw it complaining about connecting on port 443 to the server. I'm not sure why this port but I added an entry to server.xml in Tomcat to listen on this port. Now I get audio! But for videos I still only get audio...

Just found the reason why playing did not work here!!!
For Debugging issues I browsed the SUBSONIC UPNP Server using Media Monkey. I saw there that for Streaming an URL like http://192.168.x.y:zzzzz/stream?id=53&player=30 was used.
Pasting this URL to a browser an error message (something like user guest has no Access) was displayed.

To fix this, I granted user guest in subsonic access to the directories that contain the Music. ==> Working like a charme now :)

Still unable to get this to work - No video is playing through subsonic with the WDTV. Does anyone use Subsonic to play video to their TV? I can get it to work on every mobile devise and computer I have, just not on the TV?

I have the same issue however i done the permissions thing in the first place but i have a wierd issue.
I have the folder that containsthe music with the permissions criostage:musicshare ( username:musicshare, the group musicshare contains my user, my fiancee user on this machine so we can add and delete music to the library ):

Code: Select all
cat /etc/group
musicshare:x:1003:criostage,azure

Code: Select all
cd /mnt/disk
ll
total 28
drwx------  2 root      musicshare 16384 Jan  1  2015 lost+found
drwxrwxr-x  5 criostage musicshare  4096 Sep 19 01:27 Music

Installing subsonic, changing the user running the instance for my user (criostage) in my PSVita works fine, in my TV all the new albuns i add doesnt work for some reason ....
