Subsonic downsamples to 192k with 'no limit' set

Postby PetterW » Thu Sep 17, 2015 5:21 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to stream lossless files. But iSub transcodes them to 192k if the player doesn't demand any specific bitrate.
I've tried this in the web-player and iSub for iPhone. The "##MUSIC-FILE###" here is an Apple Lossless-file (m4a). If I set max bitrate to 320, I get the file in 320. But if I set no limit, it will downsample to 192kbps.

From log when no bitrate-limit is set:
Starting transcoder: [/Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg] [-i] [##MUSIC-FILE###.m4a] [-map] [0:0] [-b:a] [192k] [-v] [0] [-f] [mp3] [-]

Any ideas whats causing this?

I was getting this too. Subsonic 5.3 beta2 on Debian, Rasp Pi2 and IOS 9.1 Beta 5. Happened with iSub and AVSub apps
I was also getting an issue where my downsample wouldn't work regardless of settings. removing the "-b:a %bk" switch for "-b %bk" sorted that but still not the "no limit" setting.

I eventually changed the ffmpeg command to avconv (kept original switches) and that seems to have fixed it.

My ffmpeg build
ffmpeg version 0.8.17-6:0.8.17-1+rpi1, Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the Libav developers
built on Mar 25 2015 00:39:58 with gcc 4.6.3

My avconv build
avconv version 9.14-6:9.14-1rpi1rpi1, Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the Libav developers
built on Jul 22 2014 15:08:12 with gcc 4.6 (Debian 4.6.3-14+rpi1)

may be worth switching if it's an ffmpeg issue

oh, I had to create a Symbolic link in the Subsonic transcode folder back to the application binary for it to work. On my Debian setup anyway.

I've noticed this issue too and i'm using a self compiled FFmpeg install.

If I set bandwidth limit to 320 it's ok, but if I set it to unlimited it winds back to 192
