FLAC tags of some albums not parsed correctly...

Postby flacflac » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:46 pm

Hi,
I have several thousand albums on an Apache/Tomcat server running Subsonic 3.7beta1. For some reason, there are a few albums where there are no tags being parsed despite the files being properly tagged. I can open each of these album pages but instead of correctly separating tracktitle and artist and album it displays the filenames:

artist_-_album_-_track_-_title

Has anyone else experienced this? I am unsure what is causing this, as even a re-tag in MP3TAG won't always fix the problem.

Thank you,
flacflac :)

Hmm, nobody out there with tags not properly parsed in Subsonic? :/

Hi,

Looks like we have a few issues with the tag library used for parsing in Subsonic:

Seems it's gotten a bit out-dated. We might get Sindre to replace it for an alternative in a future release.

Re-encoding helps...

The log message of "Entagged", the library used to parse the tags always mentioned a defunct header of the FLAC files in question. Testing them with both FLAC Tester and Foobar would not reveal any damages, checksums included at the time of creation of the files also showed no changes. Still, a re-encode (FLAC-to-FLAC) solved the problem - the tags are now read correctly.

This of course is less of an option with an MP3 collection, as you will lose quality this way. "Entagged" is not being developed anymore, is there an alternative, Sindre?

Hm, not that I know of. I just had a look at jFLAC, but I don't think they support tag parsing/editing.

Did you look at this one...?

This one still seems to be an active project and quite powerful:

Did you look at that one before?

I'm seeing that the search function just fails to find some/most of my FLAC music. I don't know why, but if I search for a specific title, there are no hits.

By browsing the artist/album on the left, I find the song and I'm able to play it. The tag editor also shows the correct tags for the album.

Sindre, if you need access to my server to verify/trace, don't hesitate to PM me.

Try to refresh your index (Admin --> Settings --> Search --> Refresh now).

I've done this several times, in addition to the scheduled refresh every night at 03:00. The log never mentions any errors during the refresh either. If I add an mp3 file and refresh the index, it's found as soon as the index is ready.
