Hi Sindre,

Here is a 'well done' from a happy :D Subsonic user since 2009, lot of potential in this V6.0 beta 1 version
I do also have the Edge issue on Windows 10 with the large horizontal white bar that won't go away.

With Firefox and Chrome no problems so far, I am looking forward to further updates.

Thank you!
regards,

Ronald

uh...where did Internet Radio Stations go?

The API call is still there and still returns my station(s), but the UI to add new ones is missing from Settings. I kinda need it, 'cause I'm moving my servers to newer (much faster 64bit) boxes this weekend.

Try to force reload the page, or clear the browser cache.

That got rid of the framing, thanks. Now how do I get back the old artists lev-nav?

Regarding the new UI, I think it looks great! But, I have to agree with the general opinion from the others that losing the LEFT PANE for artists and moving the functionality to INDEX at the top is a bit tough to get used to. The INDEX seems wasteful in my opinion, even after messing with the indexing to try to clean it up a bit. It was so convenient before and looked great, I thought. I wonder if there is a way to somehow maintain that functionality with the new UI design?

Great job overall though, I like the new look :-) And thank you!

ok, for the short term at least for administering them for external apps, you can go to http://my-server:4040/internetRadioSettings.view . Not sure if there's a hidden url to play them, but there we are.

Hey,

Is there a way to downsample / transcode or otherwise reduce the bitrate with the new player? I used to use the following to transcode into aac
ffmpeg -i %s -v warning -ab 128k -ac 2 -ar 44100 -f flv -

however I had to delete it for anything to play in 6beta1.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated; saves on the upload and mobile data download usage!

Thanks! :)

Yeah, sorry, I didn't consider the Internet radio feature to be very useful (it's basically just a list of bookmark). But I'll add a new page to play the streams "inline" (still with the option to open them externally).

And not to worry: all the configured radio stations are still present in the database, they are just currently hidden from the UI.

Thanks

Re: Subsonic 6.0.beta1 released, video transcoding

Postby tom_22 » Mon Feb 08, 2016 3:26 pm

Hello Sindre,

thanks for the new version of Subsonic - I like it :D

However, I was a bit surprised regarding the improvements of the video transcoding, e.g. all the video-transcoder-settings were removed, but I understand the rational behind it - you want to get away from those n:n scenarios.
What I have actually noticed is, the on-the-fly conversion of other video-formats still works through the API towards MacOS-Safari or iOS, or other 3rd-party-apps on iOS.

Going forward, are you planning to disable this feature ('on-the-fly through API') as well?

For me, it is one of the great features of Subsonic, that I could throw almost any format at it (with the help of ffmpeg / transcoding...) and it played on-the-fly from at least one desktop browser - which is a kind of n:1 scenario...

Hi Sindre,

first I must say it is great, that subsonic finally begins to speak HTML5!
But as tom_22 said :

I agree, that live-transcoding always was THE killerfeature of subsonic. Of course I understand the struggles with HTML5, but as long it is not possible to live-stream without previous conversion I think, I will stay at 5.3.

And Yes the transition of the left frame in the top as "Index" is not very usefull. In fact I'd love to see any kind of option where I can decide if I want the new Index-Style or leave the old one withhin the left frame.

Best regards

Left Hand Menu Settings.

Postby aylesburytim » Mon Feb 08, 2016 5:26 pm

Hello,
I have been looking at the new 6.0.beta1 and tried to change the Settings/General/Index items to add "An Artist" under the old system this would add a shortcut to the left menu. nothing appeared in this version.
Is it possible to have this back as it may answer the questions elsewhere on here.

It's looking good..

Tim.

Whoops, I forgot the forum existed and submitted a request by email (for sorting by column versus by row in Index view, which has already been mentioned in this thread).

I'll add a thumbs-up for the new version to balance out some of the negative reviews, personally I think this is a big step forward and I love it. While I'm sure it's terrible if someone's octagenarian neighbour can't adapt to current UI trends, that's hardly representative of the core user base.

People seem to be having trouble finding the library/index, maybe a microphone isn't the most intuitive icon for it (unless that's just the themes I've tried; I'm running a server that's been through several 'dirty' updates, maybe it's a leftover)? What about a simple lowercase 'abc' or even a vertical hamburger like a bookshelf?
