Restore playlists after migration

Postby scolford » Mon May 16, 2016 11:03 am

I've successfully migrated my installation from a Windows XP machine (I know, I know) to a Mac Mini. I've got all my accounts and settings and everything is fine, except for the playlists. Like many other folks posting in this forum with different circumstances, I can see the playlist titles and the number of songs in them, but no song titles are listed when clicked. I suspect that may be because the file paths to the sources have changed on the new platform.

Where are the playlists stored? If they were separate text-based files, I could easily update the changed paths. But if they are stored in the Subsonic database, is there a way to edit them?

This isn't crucial to me. These playlists are not a big concern. But it would be nice to know if it can be corrected.

They're stored in the DB. Not sure if this will work but you could the following:

* Go to a playlist and "export" it. This will hopefully give you a .m3u8 file of the original contents.
* Edit that file and fix the file paths. I'm guessing it is just a matter of something like \ -> / and/or 'C:' like changes, and you should be able to mass find-replace to fix the issues. You may need to rename the file to .txt to get a text editor to open it.
* Rename the file type to .m3u (sometimes the upload is picky on that)
* Upload the file to create a new playlist.
* If it works, delete the old one.

Yeah, I thought of that. But when I export the playlist, at least on the new server, it doesn't contain anything but the "#EXTM3U" at the beginning. I may fire up the old machine, if I get bored later. Or I may just say "screw it, who cares."

I am having a similar problem. I had a drive that contained my media files recently fail. I added a new drive with the same drive letter but when I opened Subsonic ALL of my playlists were empty and no music was found even though the paths were exactly the same! I rescanned all of the media files and now my music is back. However, all of my playlists are still empty. Does this mean they are actually empty or do the paths in the database need to be edited? Please help. Thx.

Who knows?
Just export the playlist en open them with a texteditor and see what's there. If the playlist is empty, all you can do is make new ones.
