Long Time Fan - Revisiting Subsonic

Postby CeePeeBee » Tue May 31, 2016 11:57 am

Hi Guys

I used Subsonic a few years back when I had a different media server and loved it. It had a few quirks but it helped me stay entertained during long drives around the UK for work.

Things changed, and I stopped using it, instead opting for a number of free trials of streaming services. Again, that did me fine, until I stopped being able to get free trials, and now I've reverted back to Subsonic.

I've installed the latest version on my media server, and I just have a few questions which i don't think I've seen the answer to fully anywhere:

1) Is there anyway to change the the view/sorting of the library? For instance I'd love to see Genre, artist (as I can now) as well as by year (not decade) for example.
2) Is there anyway to make the library be rescanned more frequently than daily? My media server has numerous CPU cycles sitting there doing nothing most of the time and my library is likely to change daily so I'd like to ensure that whenever I'm about I get my latest media.
3) Are there any plugins that people generally use? I use Serviio to serve video to my local devices for example and I have plugins to create playlists of similar TV shows based on meta data etc. A "Radio" or similar tunes would be good but any plugins that people use would be interesting to see.

Any responses would be great. Thanks again

Subsonic doesn't really have 'plug-ins' in that manner (it is a request). It does use Last.fm's similar artists list to create a 'radio' mode, both in the UI (on any artist page is a "Start Radio" button) and through the API.

http://subfireplayer.net/radio is a tool I wrote for making 'smart' playlists through the API's features. Documentation can be found at http://subfireplayer.net/subfire-radio/ . Being an API client, it may require a premium license on your server.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes,I've seen some info about your tool but haven't looked at it yet - I will do now!

I'll have to make some requests by the looks of it although however they aren't showstoppers.

I do have a premium license for Subsonic, so I'll take a look, thanks :)
