android client - crashes - complete device reboot

Problem Description: (tapping the next track / previous track buttons more than once in quick succession results in a complete device reboot on Samsung galaxy note 3 )
Troubleshooting Steps: ( proven repeatability - updated all apps from play store - still the same - regressed to previous build - same issue)
Playback Application and version: ( subsonic for android 4.4)
Subsonic Version: (affects 5.3 through 6.0 - currently regressed to 5.3)
Server Version: (jetty-6.1 x java 1.70_79 linux)
Hardware Platform: (server linux client android)
Java Memory Limit: (n/a)
Problem Filename: (none)
Output from ffmpeg -i: (n/a)
Last ten log file lines: (no logfile access presently - will have to look later)


Synopsis:

Particularly when playing into bluetooth audio sources, tapping the next track or previous track buttons in either the main player screen or the lock screen on
a Samsung Galaxy Note III (Sm-N9005 - android 4.4.2)

the original result was that the music would stop playing and the android device would completely reboot
the more recent result is that the music stops playing, the same track restarts playing then some 5-10 seconds later the whole device reboots
