Best NAS to run subsonic on?

Is there any NAS out there that comes with subsonic or has a subsonic module? I see instructions on how to install subsonic on debian based NAS but before I buy one I'd like to know if there is one that directly supports it.

Good luck getting an answer here; I've been considering something like this for a LONG time. These forums aren't very active.

That said, if you find anything, I'd greatly appreciate knowing what you decide on... or, I'll partner with you on the research & investigation efforts. I'm looking at a NAS for my family's backup solution, mostly because I need to transform my subsonic/linux box into a gaming box for the kids.

Since I have a NAS currently...D-Link dns-321...and I run subsonic against it from a laptop... I decided I would be better off getting a small PC. So I bought a Voyo V2 which is a quad 1.3-1.8ghz, 2gb ram, 32 GB ROM and 64gb SSD, gigabit NIC, HDMI out with a Windows 10 OS for $104 at GearBest. They've reported problems with this unit...apparently a defective battery..but hopefully this is resolved. I haven't gotten it yet...we'll see. I figure it's a better processor than most NAS boxes have...and should be more flexible. Plus installing and configuring subsonic will be easier.

I have been happy with Subsonic running from a raspberry pi 2 unit. Cheap and easy solution to my streaming. I have configured the pi with a 500 GB external HD that I had lying around. Once setup I have placed this on the shelf and been happy ever since. You can setup using monit to ensure that the server is restarted if power is lost or system reboots. I also run my homebridge to control all things Siri that are outside the walled Apple garden. Such a wonderful device. Out the door it cost me about $60 to get up. Highly recommended.

Also use this as a external backup for my pictures and music collection. Simple rsync pushes helps keep things neat and tidy with regards to sync.

So after 2 months of waiting I never got the Voyo PC from Gearbest. I ended up buying an Intel NUC i3 with 8GB ram and a 120Gb SSD for $240. It works great and is a nice compact unit. I was also looking at the Gigabyte BRIX devices. The PC runs windows 10 so I can use if for media (Netflix, Hulu, SlingTV, Kodi, etc) for my TV.

I'm running Subsonic on my NUC5PPYH. No hard disk, OS (Ubuntu) & Subsonic are on an SD card, audio files on two USB3 hard disks. Works brilliantly.

I am currently using a Synology NAS device since August of this year. It took me a few months to figure out everything including setting up all the apps on it and getting them to function the way I needed them to. Despite the long process it took to get everything up and running I will say it was worth it, everything works perfectly now and exactly the way I imagined it. Now that I said all that I have to say there is no official Subsonic installer for Synology so your only option is to use a GitHub custom install which doesn't include any instructions for the latest 6.0 version but it does indeed work with it if you just make a few changes yourself. Then I had some permission issues after all of that which was really discouraging since that took the longest to figure out but finally after all that it has been running flawlessly for the last 2 months and has also been extremely fast as well. I just wish there was some kind of official support, so basically if you aren't interested in tackling a few issues setting it up then don't use Synology.
