Cover art icon does not change

Hi all,

for the cover art of my albums I've stored a folder.jpg in every album folder. Sometimes I find a better one and I replace this file. Unfortunately Subsonic doesn't! I tried it with a rescan of my whole music collection, I tried it with a database clean up and I also tried to change the artwork manually with the Subsonic function (this works temporarily). Next day the icon is the old one again. Only when I click on the (wrong) image in the album detail view the zoom shows the right (new) album artwork.

Any idea what I'm possibly doing wrong?

you're not doing anything wrong.
Susbsonic stores the thumbnails in a folder subsonic\thumbs and just fails to update that information if you use another coverart-image by just placing that image in the album folder.
It updates the information if you use the native option to change the coverart.
A workaround may be to rename the coverart-image.
So if you used "cover.jpg" as the coverart image you might try renaming it to "folder.jpg" or "front.jpg".
I found that Subsonic than registers the changed coverart correctly and generates a new thumbnail.

Just don't forget to start a folderscan afterwards, or Subsonic still won't update the thumbnail.

In my experience, just clear the cache of your web browser and Subsonic will update images ... A lot less work

That might work in some cases. I tried it several times and it always turned out that the old thumbnail was still there allthough clicking on the image would show the new coverart-image.
Only by renaming the coverart-image I could get Subsonic to pick up the change and generate a new thumbnail.

What is the path of the media your using?
Your subsonic server will need Read/Write to be able to update the art and modify tags in the media files (when formats are supported for edit).

Seems to me quite irrelevant. The issue isn't pathnames or permissions, but solely the fact that Subsonic doesn't update thumbnails if you replace the coverart-image of an album without using the native "change coverart"-function of Subsonic.

That's right! Also using the "change coverart"-function replaces the thumbnail only in the running session. I'm not sure if after the next login or after the next complete scan the old thumbnail is back again.

But I found a workaround: I tried it with deleting the whole thumbnail folders and it worked because Subsonic filled then again with the next login. That's enough for me for now.

Well I can assure you that when you change the coverart using the native function of Subsonic it will stay that way.
Deleting the whole thumbnail folders is a somewhat drastic approach but if it works, it works.

I just delete all thumbnails in subsonic folder, and do a scan again.
