Help with Log Files

Postby Phatteus » Sat Feb 25, 2017 3:45 pm

I've scoured these forums and found lots off older posts regarding log files, but nothing recent.

I am looking to find a log of all downloads/streams by all users, across all clients (web UI, mobile app, etc).

I look in the subsonic.log file in Subsonic's root directory, and there is lots of info in there, but nothing about the tracks themselves. For instance, I just played up "Mama Kin" by Aerosmith using DSub on my Android. I have never played this track before using Subsonic. Here are the log entries from that timeframe:

Code: Select all
[2017-02-25 10:35:27,254] INFO PlayerDao - Created player 31.
[2017-02-25 10:35:27,464] INFO VersionService - Resolved latest Subsonic final version to: 6.0
[2017-02-25 10:35:27,464] INFO VersionService - Resolved latest Subsonic beta version to: 6.0.beta2
[2017-02-25 10:35:33,846] INFO PodcastService - Starting scheduled Podcast refresh.
[2017-02-25 10:35:33,856] INFO PodcastService - Completed scheduled Podcast refresh.

Seeing that the player was created is a good sign, but I am looking to know what was played, and by whom.

Is there a setting that will enable the logging of this info, or is there a different log file I should be looking at?

Unless you're prepared to alter Subsonic's code to your needs there's no way to retreive that information.
Subsonic logfile will also record any failed attempts to log in, but not when people succesfully logged in.
So the logfiles are really useless if you want to monitor the usage of your subsonic server.
The only real possibility to view some info is;
More >> Network Status >> Monitor the real-time status of all network media streams.

Thank you for the reply... Well, I am a coder, proficient in several languages and hack-capable in most others ;)

But I was under the impression Subsonic was closed-source, and so I wouldn't be able to contribute a change like this for the greater good of community (admittedly with my own needs in mind!) .... unless there is another way?

Subsonic has forks which still are open source. The previous versions of Subsonic were all open source, so if you don't mind taking a step back and delve into the code of a previous version you can even set up your own version.

Hmmm, ok thanks, that is something for me to look into then... Maybe if the tweaks are straightforward I can submit them for inclusion in the official release. Thanks again.
