Subsonic redirects to IP address...

Postby talios » Wed Jun 14, 2017 8:33 pm

This may be a super simple question, but I can't see to find it anywhere, I have subsonic configured to use NNN.subsonic.org - but whenever I go the server in the browser, it redirects to my IP address and not the domain name. Which seems rather.... stupid.

_Evertything_ exposes the IP address, which just seems counter to what you would ever want. But also it does it inconsistently, I currently have one tab with localhost, one with my internal IP address, and the other laptop showing the external IP.

Is this just something that everyone puts up with?

Cheers

It is actually surprisingly smart in usually getting it right whether or not you are on your internal network or in the outside world. I don't actually know how it pulls it off.

that said, the IP-only does cause a problem for my setup. Because my work was (for a time) blocking the 4040 port, I set up a reverse proxy in Apache on my home network so that I had server1.mydomain and server2.mydomain and it would go to the right server depending on the name you asked for.

This, of course, meant that as it thought both of them were port 80, it simply went my-ip:80 and so my apache's own web page came up instead. Not too helpful, that.

But then I pretty much never use the subsonic.org address, as I think the 304 redirect to be a little inefficient, plus for a time (I haven't tried it recently) it was breaking the audio playback on Firefox - the duration was never constant.
