Multiple starred lists (as like multiple favorite lists)

Postby MarkL » Fri Apr 13, 2018 5:01 pm

Hi,

love this app and use it since years. But one thing is still missing for me: Multiple starred lists (as like multiple favorite lists).

What I want to be able to do is to build collections of albums for special occasions and moods. One for romantic evenings, one for children birthday parties, one for our parties, one for cleaning the house, one with background music while reading, one for…
Like multiple stacks of preselected CDs from which to pick one from.
Playlists won’t do the trick since it isn’t easy to play a specific album from a playlist.

Is this of interest for anyone else?
Or can this use case already be done and I’m only missing something?

Regards,
Mark

no, it isn't really supported, though it is an intriguing idea that I may think about to add to one of my apps in progress, but that'll be a few months out before I get to it.

Thanks.
Don't get me wrong but wouldn't it be better if this feature would be added at the server side? If the implementation is located at the device, all the settings would be lost when the phone needs to be restored and no sync would be possible to the other devices one owns nor could other apps support that feature.

There are ways around that. Like with my SubFire Radio feature, it would use playlists with a specific comment format in them. The playlist would just store the first track from each album, then the app would use that info to display the albums themselves for playing, displaying it just as if it was displaying the canned album queries.

Come to think of it, that's kinda a way around it using the main UI. Simply make a playlist of the first song from each album in the theme, but instead of playing the playlist, use that as bookmarks to get to each album by clicking on the album entry of the playlist song grid. From there you can play the album or just add it to the current running queue. If the album doesn't show in the playlist grid, then you'll need to add it using the settings.

Still, that's just the main UI. The official phone app doesn't quite support that navigation.

Nice idea. But as you said it doesn't work with the apps - and that's what I need, since I only use Subsonic through android apps.

Question: do you use Chrome or Firefox on Android or just the default browser that comes with your phone?

ok, I prototyped up a little idea.

Visit https://subfiresuite.com/m (use http://subfiresuite.com/m if your server is not HTTPS or is using a self-signed cert - I can't control those).
Hit the 3-bar menu upper left, Settings, in order to log in (I do not in any way cache or pass through your login information to my own servers. It goes directly from your browser/phone to your own server).
Now go to Albums (same 3-bar menu) to get to the normal album queries like the subsonic home page.
Flip the switch for "Playlists?"
You will now see the albums for the songs from your first playlist, in playlist order. Click the query feature to flip through other playlists on your server.

This gives you that feature, more or less. Just create a playlist with one (or more) songs from the themed albums you want to associate, and come to this Album page, it will do more or less what you asked for, providing a list of albums for that playlist, and clicking on the album plays the whole album, not just the one track from the playlist. This mobile app doesn't allow you to browse to append to your queue while it is playing, though I'm adding that feature to the upcoming replacement.

This mobile page is a "Progressive Web App". If you use Chrome to "Add to Home Page" on your Android phone, it will open full-screen like an app when you click it. If you are using https, it will fully install the page as an app like any other.

Great work! I've always wanted to make themed album playlists, things like "Albums to play in summer" and "Christmas albums". Your mobile app works great. It would be nice to see this fully implemented in the server or to more apps (like DSub). Thanks.
