Yamaha NP-S303 - Unable to play file

Postby jamessmith260996 » Mon Jan 22, 2018 8:01 pm

Hello everyone,

I've been using Subsonic for a long time and have always been able to get things to work, but not this time. After extensivly searching this forum I was not able to find a solution, so help is needed and greatly appreciated.

I'm using the latest official build of Subsonic on a Windows 2008R2 server and it is running perfectly. In my house I have a Denon Ceol player which I use in the kitchen, which is playing Subsonic files using DLNA without any problem.
Recently I bought a Yamaha NP-S303 to add some much needed functionality to my main stereo-system I use in the living room. However, the Yamaha refuses to play any file stored on my Subsonic server. It is able to access the server and read the folders and files on the server. However, whenever I select a file to play the Yamaha gives me an error stating 'Unable to play file'.
Because the Denon CEOL is playing the same files, from the same server, on the same network without a glitch, I think the Yamaha player is doing something wrong. Does anybody know a way to either configure some DLNA options, or other way's to get the Yamaha to behave and play the files stored on my SubSonic server.

The player is physically able to play the files.I've tested that by putting some of the files on a USB-stick and plug that stick directly in the Yamaha player. The files played without a glitch. I suspect the DLNA implementation of DLNA in the Yamaha player is at fault, but that is just a hunch. Hoping someone here can help me out.

I downloaded the User Manual from the NP-S303. The device should be able to play files from your network share even without Subsonic acting as a DLNA-server.
Seems to me that your problem is an issue with the Yamaha-device and not so much Subsonic, allthough Subsonic can act as a DLNA-server if you activate that setting in Settings >> DNLA/UPNP
.
You could try contacting Yamaha Support. I guess that they can help you better to get things working.

Hello ,

I have the same problem here with Yamaha A3050:

1. if I use any other DLNA player to stream music to Yamaha, it works (as example stupid windows works fine, but the audio quality sucks!)
2. if I use Subsonic in default configuration (of course with premium license and enabled DLNA, got unable to play, while songs are listed correctly in directory structure)

I suspect something wrong on subsonic as there are other DLNA servers normally working. I also tested free libresonic and subsonic on linux as well. Bo success, behavior is always the same.

Thanks, br Zbynek

I tought I'd give it a go and tried to connect my Dabman to Subsonic using Dlna/Upnp.
It works, but not very smoothly. Checking the logfiles I see a lot of lines like:
[10/6/18 12:31:13 PM CEST] WARN SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt: That Man
[10/6/18 12:31:13 PM CEST] WARN SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt: Deleted scenes from the Cutting room floor
[10/6/18 12:31:13 PM CEST] WARN SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt: Deleted scenes from the Cutting room floor
[10/6/18 12:31:23 PM CEST] WARN SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt: Deleted scenes from the Cutting room floor
[10/6/18 12:31:23 PM CEST] WARN SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt: Deleted scenes from the Cutting room floor

It seems that Subsonic requires some authentication for Dlna/Upnp to work.
However I found that if I open a folder, select a song, and close that folder again, the music from that folder starts playing, but it doesn't start the song I selected.
After the song has finished Subsonic just plays another random song in that folder. Or Subsonic likes that song so well it keeps playing it in an endless loop.
Meanwhile Subsonic's logfile is displaying more "SecurityService Unauthenticated access attempt:" entries.
So basically the Dlna/Upnp function is worthless to me.
Searching the internet I found Minimserver. Freeware. It doesn't look as nice as Subsonic, but at least it does what it's supposed to do.
I will try it for some time, perhaps other people have already found an alternative to Subsonic for Dlna/Upnp?
