freedb has closed, how to fix

Postby 3Dscrewer » Fri Jun 26, 2020 11:28 am

Hi Folks,
as you probably know freedb has shut down his service. This is causing some problems ripping CD's

There are a couple of possible fixes.

1: You can use, if your software allows, a local freedb. The archive is 1GB, extracted ~4GB and you can download it here.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200606020 ... ub/freedb/
The latest archive is from 1. june 2020

2: MP3Tag
Go to settings > freedb and replace freedb.freedb.org with gnudb.gnudb.org hit OK and you are ready.
Also you can point a path to the local freedb you have downloaded (see 1:), don't forget to hit create index .... do it over night
Remember MP3Tag will find the needed information even if you have only Track1, Track2 and so on. Just mark all files in ascending order and choose the pull down menue

3: EAC
Go to settings change freedb to http://gnudb.gnudb.org:80/~cddb/cddb.cgi
Windows add in the shortcut icon by the command -HTTP1.1 of course a space in front of the -
Linux or Windows command line add also -HTTP1.1 behind the command
New versions will be changed in future to gnudb

For all other, have a look at your settings, you can probably change the freedb server too and try the mentioned changes
Good luck
