Ignore directories?

Postby Coupey » Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:12 am

Hi,

I think it would be really useful if it was possible to ignore certain folders in my media library.

This could be done simply by putting, say, a 'subsonic_ignore.txt' file in the relevant directories.

It could even be slightly more sophisticated, for instance if you could set variables within the text file to (for instance) let Subsonic know to include the contents of the folder but not allow the contents to be part of a randomly-generated playlist. That way I won't have to weed out things like chapters from audiobooks when I generate a random playlist.

Cheers,

Coupey.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll implement this in Subsonic 2.8.

It's out now in 2.8.beta1. Note that the file should be named subsonic_exclude.txt".

Can you post an example/directions of how to exclude a directory? I can't seem to get it to work. Do you have to have a "subsonic_exclude.txt" file with the name of the directory that I want to exclude within in or is it just a blank .txt file named "subsonic_exclude.txt"?

Sure. Let's say you have a directory c:\music\foo\bar which you like to exclude. Then, in the 'foo' directory, create a subsonic_exclude.txt file with the content "bar".

The exclude file may contain multiple lines of text, one for each (immediate) subdirectory or file you want to hide in a given directory.

Hope this helps,

Yes. That helps a lot. I tried every other combination except that one. BTW, Great piece of software.

Just wondering, was this broken in 3.8? Neither a rescan of the search index, nor a restart of the subsonic service seem to recognize newly added folders/lines to subsonic_exclude.txt.

Not working here either. Unfortunately I added the media folder before placing the excludes file inside, and now I can't get the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder removed from my Subsonic list.

Is there any solution to this yet?

What would be really nice is if there was a setting we could make. As an example I have all my covers in my albums in a folder named Artwork. If I could put in an exclusion named Artwork. Subsonic wouldn't index the folder. Right now when I open the app on my android and select an Artist -> Album it lists the folder Artwork. I would like to remove the listing.

I am on win11 and using Subsonic v6.1.6 and the subsonic_exclude.txt does not work.
