Network Help

Postby kingichrist » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:55 pm

I have been running Subsonic on a Win 7 machine but I recently moved all my music to a NAS storage device. I tried to enter the network path for the music in the folder but Subsonic still insists it does not recognize the folder path.

Can anyone help me with this?

There is already a topic called Music Folder problem (or something like that) regarding this issue.
The best solution is to set the subsonic service to run as a user who exists on W7 and has access rights on your NAS.
Let us know if you need more info about how to do this

Hi there,

I tried to do it as simple as possible...
On your NAS, create an account (I will call it "MusicPlayer") and give him access to your music folder. It is better to setup a password for this account
On the Windows 7, you need to follow those steps:
    - Open your control panel, then User Accounts
    - Create an account "MusicPlayer" with the same password as the one on the NAS. It is better to choose a limited rights account
    - Go back to your Control Panel
    - Select "Administrative Tools", then "Services" (in the classic view)
    - double-click the "subsonic" service
    - In the log on tab select "This account" instead of Local System Account
    - Select the "MusicPlayer" account and type in the password and validate. The system will grant "log on as a service" rights to "MusicPlayer"
    - Restart the service

You should now be able to use a UNC path to select this folder in subsonic . i.e.: \\my_nas\my_music_share

Cheers

    THANK YOU for this solution.

I'm one of many migrating from SimplifyMedia, which was never this difficult to configure.

I hope future versions of Subsonic patch this.

    Again, props...

    problem

    Postby guardian26 » Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:31 am

I have figured out how to stream subsonic on my internal network and I can access it via my xxx.subsonic.org address externally. When I try to use it on my Blackberry,(http://xxxx.subsonic.org/wap) I get the subsonic home page that I cannot use. When I use my home IP address, I can play on the BB but that is dynamic and it will change....any idea how I get the BB to work with the subsonic.org address? Thx and this thing is unbelievable.
