What a Great Program!
I start using it last night and it work so well. Most audio file work well but I cannot see my APE file and the transcoders I downloaded from the subsonic website did not come with APE.exe .
May I ask where I can download a proper transcoder for the APE file?

on linux, you can use the script and directions specified here. this makes setting up transcoding much simpler.
on windows, there should be an ffmpeg to, or here on http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ is an encoder for ape, but havent tried it myself, since i'm on linux myself. set it up like any other transcoder.

I can not see there any advise how to transcode APE files in Linux.
Could someone help? How to install APE decoder to linux and what exactly line should be in transcoding field.

I tested also with WIN7 installation and results are similar. Noticed that MPC transcoding is also broken.

I've tried three different ways of transcoding .mpc files. All of them work fine from a shell. All three fail to play the whole song in the web player.
HOWEVER, all three seem to work just fine when using an external player (I'm using amarok).
Very strange.

Hmm I'm using Subsonic 4.0.1 (stand-alone) on Arch linux using
FFmpeg version SVN-r23619
Lame 3.98.4
And upon testing it appears to work fine with me no web player (flash plug-in 10.1 r53 running in chromium) freezes at all using an mpc test file.
Although I didn't have any Monkey's Audio files to begin with so I had to do
MP3 -> WAV -> MPC
first using mac (Monkey's audio encoder) & ffmpeg but I don't expect it made a difference.
I also had to add mpc to the list of file extensions in Settings > General which I didn't figure out for quite a while.
If someone is willing to upload a test MPC file I can try that too.
For those who are running linux try running

1.You may be using an old ffmpeg version
2. You may be using an old lame version
3. There may be a difference between the prebuilt subsonic 4.0.1 and stand-alone.

Something weird happened, I tried to access my subsonic server via IE8 with the latest flash player version, and I can play my mpc files !
But with firefox 3.6.6 with the latest flash player version, it's always the same issue : the song stops playing after 1 second

Ugly fix

Okay I have a temporary fix for this which I've tested which appears to work but may break other things. You have been warned!
These are the instructions for the stand-alone install, don't ask me how to do it with your install because I'm not using it so figure it out yourself.
Okay I have an ugly fix for this problem with the web player using firefox. It doesn't entirely fix it because the song length continuously changes and the seekbar goes crazy but the song does play (I used a MPC - Monkey's Audio file to test this).
This ugly fix involves replacing the web player (JW 5.0.753) with a newer version JW 5.2.1151 (see http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/wiki/Player5ReleaseNotes)
1. Launch the subsonic server
2. Download the newer version of the JW player. It can be found at http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw/upload/mediaplayer.zip
3. Navigate to the folder /var/subsonic/jetty/1524/webapp/flash (it might not be exactly called that. Try the command
4. Rename jw-player-5.0.swf to jw-player-5.0.swf.old
5. Copy player.swf from the zip archive containing JW player to the directory and rename it jw-player-5.0.swf
6. Launch firefox (if you haven't already) and MAKE SURE YOU CLEAR THE CACHE!
7. Login to the subsonic web interface and right click the web player. You should see a menu appear. One menu option should be "About JW Player 5.2.1151". If so you've successfully installed the new JW player.
If you see "About JW Player 5.0.753" either you haven't deleted firefox's cache or you haven't overwritten the jw-player-5.0.swf file properly.
I'm not sure how permanent this fix is but I'm able to stream MPC files to the web player in firefox now. Although it misbehaves a little.
