I built my self a server so i wouldnt have to worry about hosting things that i wanted.

AMD Athlon 6400x2 at 3.2Ghz
4Gb ddr2 ram
1.75TB HDD space

i have a 30mb download speed and a 3mb upload speed...

Works great for subsonic and a couple of game and voice servers.

You are probably not going to believe this but...

2,164 artists
1,549 albums
25,122 songs
406.61 GB (~ 6,316 hours)

Running on an old Dell
using Ubuntu 8.04
P3 450MHz
640 MB of RAM

All music on on a NAS

Granted, I am really the only one that accesses it, but it never lags at all, and a large number of my music is FLAC (so the PC is converting it to stream).

My Setup

Postby wiseadam » Tue May 04, 2010 4:32 am

1,272 artists
3,817 albums
49,317 songs
263.30 GB (~ 4,090 hours)
Around 25 Users

Hardware:
SuperMicro Micro-ATX Server Case
AMD Athlon II x4 630 2.8Ghz
Asus Micro-ATX w/AMD/ATi 760G Chipset
4GB's DDR3 1333
1xWD 160GB 7200RPM OS System Drive
4xWD 2TB GREEN Storage Drives
Windows Home Server PP3

Running on a FIOS 25MB/s down and 15MB/s up

Not having any performance issues. I've donated to the subsonic guys, and it's well deserved. I love the application and hope that they continue to progress because I have a line of people wanting the iPhone app.

Necrosis wins, everyone go home, nothing else to see here.....

Haha, niiice. That's a beefy setup for 2 users, lucky other user!

I'd also be interested in finding what everyone is using to tag, and how their folder structures are setup.

I probably have 3-4 stray single songs, but all my music is full albums and tagged. I have about 6000+ more that are not tagged and have not been added to my folders yet. I have been using tag&rename for years now.

My folder structure on my server is \music\genre\artist\album\
if applicable, after that would be \disc# if multiple disks were available for that album. I do my Sountracks with tags of
Artist: Various Artists
Album: Movie/TV Show Name
Song tag: 01 Song Title - Artist

I've found this is the easiest way to keep it clean. I don't want a artist search to come up with every song they've done on soundtracks because it gets messy when sorting.

1,678 artists
3,750 albums
31,122 songs
238.13 GB (~ 3,699 hours)

Running on Suse 11.2 (64bit)/Tomcat
5TB over 3 drives running NFS and backed up to other points on my lan
4GB Ram
AMD Athlon II X2 245

As far as tagging goes all music is in either Artist/Album/<artist> - <track> - <title>.ext or Various/Album/<track> - <artist> - <title>.ext

All music has been tagged (actually closer to 98% because I have some old music from mp3.com where the artists kind of disappeared and information about the band/albums/tracks isnt easy to get) by MusicBrainz http://musicbrainz.org/
