Disk never sleeps in Linux. [Subsonic Disk Access]

Postby Timmy1024 » Sat May 11, 2013 1:17 am

Hi,

Since I installed Subsonic on my My Book Live Duo (which has a Debian OS), the disks don't sleep anymore. I'm 100% sure it's Subsonic accessing the disk someway because if I reboot the NAS and don't launch it, the disks sleep fine. As soon as I launch it, the disks don't sleep anymore.

I've tried fiddling with the Fast Access Mode
Use this option to minimize disk access, for instance if your media files are located on a network disk. Note: Changes to files will only be visible after your media folders are scanned.
, but it didn't have any effect.

How can I make it stop accessing the disks all the time while nobody is streaming / no client is connected / no scanning is being done?

I'm actually on 22 day of my trial and so far the product is great, but the only thing stopping me to go Premium is this thing, that doesn't allow my NAS to sleep! :x

By the way, I've found a thread with a similar problem (http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1612) but it was for the Windows version. At the end of the thread a couple of users present my very same problem for Linux without any answer.

Thanks in advance, please let me know if you can help me or have something to try.

Any ideas...?

If there's something I could try, please let me know, as this thing is the only thing missing to finish my NAS setup, go Premium in Subsonic and close the subject! :)

Thanks again

I have been running subsonic for years under linux and I have to admit I have never noticed this. I will definitely check when I get home though. You have piqued my curiosity... :)

Thanks Aethies for your reply! :)

In my case, it was quite noticeable because the NAS has only one led: GREEN (BLINKING): means disk are spinning and being accesed, BLUE: disks stopped in power saving mode, because no process is using them anymore. Since I installed Subsonic they never went BLUE again. If I restart the NAS and don't launch Subsonic, it goes BLUE after a while. Then, I launch Subsonic and it never goes GREEN again.

So... it's pretty clear that Subsonic is the culprit. ;) Please, let me know if you find out something.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay...I had to reload my workstation..

I checked my u/i and all the disk stuff and they are idle a lot of the time..
My setup is as follows:

PE1800
8Gig Ram
Raid 1 - OS
Raid 5 - Storage

The raid 5 doesn't seem to be taxing the system at all. I sit around 0.01 percent used on any given day/time. I don't see any disk usage when no one is on the server. I wonder, what do your processes look like?
You can email me at aethies @ gmail dot com and I will send you screens of my processes and setup.

I have this same problem. My hard drive get's pegged so hard from subsonic that I can't play music files on my home system without the music pausing from it.

Since there is inconsistency with some who have this and some who don't, is there a chance that Subsonic could of been exploited/hacked in some way? I tried changing the passwords but to no success.

I've been using subsonic for at least 3 years and didn't see this problem in the beginning.

Linux system(subsonic in linux KVM guest on linux host).
