Increasing max video bitrate?

Postby eger » Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:27 am

Wondering if there is a way to increase the max video bitrate? I'd like to go much higher than 2000kbps for full screen 720p movies.

Also, would be another cool feature to detect the aspect ratio and use the correct aspect ratio for the video thumbnails :)

Thanks for the excellent software!

Turn off transcoding for the file types that JW can play in native format to view the video in native resolution without transcoding. This will also cut the CPU load to next to nothing on the server and allow the server to stream multiple feeds at the same time without killing the cpu. I've run flv mp4 and am currently testing wmv for native format playback in JW. I routinely play Blue ray quality 192X1080 mp4 through SS on my internal network.

Thanks. I will try that out. I actually do want to still transcode over the net. I've got enough bandwidth to do about 5mbps transcoded. Would be cool to make the bitrate options configurable. I guess I can just hard-code the bitrate for now tat works best.

Although transcoding comes in handy, it really puts a load on the cpu. Additionally, ffmpeg only uses one core per stream on a multi-core cpu, so even with a good quad core (like my 3GHz Xeon) the transcoding can become a real bottleneck depending on the resolution of the source video. When you bypass the transcoding, cpu load is almost non-existent and allows the server to stream multiple videos simultaneously, or even at the same time! Either way SS allows everyone to customize to suit a particular need. It's all good. 8)
