Internet Radio not playing at all

Postby tox » Fri Apr 29, 2011 11:55 am

Hi,

I've installed subsonic on my ubuntu server but it seems it can't play (nor load) any internet radio (like http://radio.ilovedrumnbass.com:8000/ ).

When i had a youtube video it's ok but it reads it directly from the youtube website not from my subsonic server.

I've read http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4058 but this solution seems to stream the radio directly from the original radio's website and is not working with me. (i've installed mplayer)

example with bassdrive radio :
Code: Select all
user@server$ sudo mplayer -playlist "/transfert/music/dnb.m3u"
MPlayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team

It'll work if you install VLC Player. It will then pass the .pls to VLC. Some sites won't run in the default webplayer on SS.

lemme explain myself :
I don't want to listen directly to the radio streams from my win7 box, i'm looking for a way to redirect a radio stream though my ubuntu server with a nice GUI with a flash player.

Local files on subsonic server plays well (subsonic has btw a very good looking)
but i don't think shoutcast's radios are supported in Subsonic.

Did i miss something?

No, I guess I did. It seems as i get older I get slower.

I guess it's just me, but I can't for the life of me figure out where this stream is actually going... Years ago, I was pretty fast, now I'm just half-fast.

I usually listen to the music from my server on some sort of remotely connected device, be it another PC or my Android Phone.

I have a Shoutcast stream on my website that when clicked will open VLC and play the stream on my desktop. That's the only way to get it to work that I know of.

no problem ;)

Ok so subsonic acts like as a "link provider" for web radios if I correctly understand what you've just said.

I think i'll have to find something else to act like this website :
http://www.ilovedrumnbass.com/drumnbass ... sh-player/

Please take a look at the last flashplayer on the page : you can enter any stream url and it plays it for you ! I'm looking for the exact same thing but from my ubuntu server.

Don't you know an open source flash player that can do that ?

Subsonic will play many internet URL streams directly. Unfortunately, not Shoutcast.

Why not just use the Player you just sited? Why use SS on your server as an intermediary when you can just connect directly? Sure, it would be nice if SS could stream Shoutcast, but as of now, it won't. You can always post a feature request in that forum.

There's several reason I want a unique entry point.
First, SS is great for sharing music with my friends and coworkers ;).
Second, My company has a firewall (combination of squid + NTLM auth) that blocks a vast majority of Internet radios (the audio/mpeg stream or directly their websites). So I want something that bypass this with a "relay" which can hides the real origin of the stream.
Moreover, with https, the stream would be encrypted so not blockable by MIME type. (I can even reencrypt/tunnel this stream with ssh easily to make it even more unrecognizable).
And the last point, SS is neat and I quite like it for home use.
