This program is going to change how I watch movies and listen to music, especially with my setup. I'm using GoogleTV to browse the web and purchase movies on my TV, but with this I have access to my entire media catalogue, regardless of file type. It's surprising that GoogleTV handles HD streams very well, and since the GoogleTV device is on the same network as my media server, it works wonderfully. This is really a game changer, and I hope it gains a lot of traction with the mainstream.

@crazysam

Have you discovered any Google TV optimized transcode settings for video?

@crazysam

So you're saying GoogleTV can access subsonic and play video just fine? No problems? You're just doing it through the web browser?

Yes I've been accessing it through the web browser. I've run into several Transcoding issues (some videos not playing, and no subtitle support), and issues with JW player's performance (when playing at high bitrate [ 2000+ ], the player randomly stops every minute or so for 5 seconds at a time, it's consistent and annoying). It seems to me that the Flash Player in Google TV's Chrome browser is quite shitty, likely due to the underpowered CPU, but the constant stopping problem is likely an issue with JW player, not Flash itself (no problems playing long YouTube videos at High Rez).

I haven't looked into optimizing my Transcoding settings, and honestly, I don't really want to deal with that. My experience with Subsonic on GoogleTV has been a bit underwhelming. The web frontend does not fit my TV, I see scrollbars for the top and left menus, even with the 720p / 1080p themes. Altering Transcoding settings is completely hit or miss, and requires familiarity with ffmpeg, and it's not possible to alter which Flash Video Player you're using without modifying the source (which seems like something totally doable and simple).

Now that GoogleTV is getting the Android Marketplace it makes more sense to me to adopt the Android app to run on the TV, instead of relying on the web browser for video playback. This is something I'm personally interested in and will be checking out how feasible and complicated a task it is.

Currently working on the feasability of using Subsonic to connect to live TV by connecting it to my Silicon Dust HD Prime. Another user on a Linix based system claims to have done it using a PERL script, but attempts to contact him have been futile. I've also asked Sindre to look at the possibility of looking at the PERL script to see if it might be possible to accomplish this via java and incorporate this functionality into a future release of Subsonic.

My son thinks he may have everything he needs to do it, except time. He's tied up with school work now, but might get a chance to work on this during Xmas break.

We have already managed to connect to the HD Homerun Prime over the internet on a notebook using a VPN connection. so there should be no reason why this can't be done through Subsonic. The HD Homerun Prime still has a few glitches, but I'm confident they will be resolved. It provides 3 tuners available to your home network that can tune digital cable and do the necessary decrytion by use of a cable card. Any PC on the network can access the tuners on a first come, first served basis for either live viewing or recording.

I'm waiting on Logitech's update for the Revue. I'll keep you guys posted when I get the chance to test the app out on the device.

I've been using Subsonic via WEB browser on the Logitech Revue with Honeycomb update. I generally have great performance, typically transcoding 720p & 1080p MKV, with the 5 sec. buffering issue occurring 30 to 40min into the film. I've noticed that once the buffering issue manifests, the longer I pause the player, the longer I can playback before bumping into the buffering issue. This has been consistent behavior that I've experienced on both Android versions of the Revue and occurs on the same wired network. I've also noticed the CPU on the host PC, where the media is stored, is not over-utilized, not exceeding 30% utilization. I'm curious as to what the cause of the buffering issue is and why the buffer appears to empty between 30 to 40 min? And what is Subsonic doing in the background regarding transcoding and the buffer that pausing video results in the symptoms previously stated?

With regards to the Market, the GoogleTV market app appears to limit the selection of applications. Subsonic does not appear to be available. Purchases made for cell and tablet in the Market do not appear in the GoogleTV market and vice versa.

The video problem doesn't seem to be related to Flash Video, since I also get freezing issues when watching videos streamed from my PC using the Logitech Media Player. But I noticed it's much more pronounced in Flash, since HD video freezes for me for 5 seconds every other minute or so, especially with transcoded HD video. The solution is to figure out a way to stream RAW video directly to an application that uses the embedded android video APIs, which transcode tons of formats (and figure out a way to add subtitle support!).

As for the application itself, it needs a UI overhaul, but I think a lot of what the mobile application can be reused in an app for GoogleTV. I'm currently taking a look at the application and since I'm an experienced coder myself we'll see how hard it is to get it working on the Revue.
