first of all thx and grats to the new version.
now a couple remarks (purely my point of view, but maybe some ppl agree there with me)

-i get the change of the premium model, one has to make a living and you spend considerable time to develop ss. so that's all cool with me + everyone has the choice to stay with the basic version...

- update of language files - fully understand that

-bugfixes, sure sth to undertake

now to the stuff i try to wrap my head around:

-the home/ recently added feature is to this date not really working! why? is it really that hard to have the recently added files show up in there? i have a average showing rate for newly added files of 50-75% depending on the day (and the moon phase perhaps?)

- a decent (usable and complete) search by genre is still not available, a major downer for users with large and huge media libraries! it should be a small job, considering it only uses db info that is anyway available (one can use it [kind of] when going to more/random play), why not as a fully blown feature to search your files same as by artist, album etc. ???

- last for now, (i am aware of the settings/clean up db) why not offer an option to do that automatically (at startup or ever so often).

ok, just some thoughts, maybe they will give you some ideas for coming releases...

cheers, L

"the home/ recently added feature is to this date not really working! why?"

That's strange, it's always worked perfecly for me on my PC running Vista and it's one of the features of the app I prefer. I do run manual scans, do you ?

I'm having the same issue with the recently added feature on a linux install. I noticed it when I upgraded to 4.8, but it appears to have stopped working before my upgrade.

Is there a way to trigger a database re-read to catch up the albums subsonic has missed?

with 'not really working' i don't try to say it isn't working at all. what i say is it adds just a part of the newly added albums most of the time. i add an average 100 albums once a week (sometimes more). after i add them i usually run a manually initiated scan to bring the database up to date. once the scan finishes and i check under 'recently added' i usually find only half (sometimes up to 75%) of the added albums there. they are in the database, but not showing in recently added.
now i have ss4.7, same as all versions before installed under linux. if you say it is flawless under windows - maybe it is a linux related problem. i would like to hear some more experiences with both systems to narrow that down more.

thx, L

i am still at 4.7, but i can say it never worked properly for me under 4.6 either. same as you i have it running under linux. i noticed that occasionally a second and third rescan add some more albums, which where missing before. but i have to say that, never since i use ss i got a real complete (100%) scan of all added albums, even after multiple scans.

Regarding the problems with "Recently added": if possible, could someone create a temporary Subsonic user (with admin rights) for me so I can look into the database and try to understand why it happens?

If so, please send login details to sindre@activeobjects.no

Thanks a lot :)

Is it possible to remove the "Note! A new version is available. Download Subsonic 4.8 here." message without actually upgrading?

There are two places this shows up. To disable the main location is just unchecking a box about showing updates in the user settings. It also shows up on the about/log page...not sure if you can make it disappear from there.

Thanks a lot for answering what turned out to be a very very newbie question. :D

I agree with another poster charging a continuous fee for the product IS going overboard. A one time fee was fine but charging someone over and over again is straight up RETARDED! I guess there are other options as Sockso is completely free. Only problem with that is updates are few and far between but at least its COMPLETELY free. I'm not against someone getting paid for there work but I'm not going to keep paying continuously for life. NO software is worth that, NONE! These are the types of software I avoid and purchase another product as I refuse to be nickeled and dimed to death. Granted I have a forever license but for new comers I will be suggesting Sockso over Subsonic due to the new pricing scheme.

Could this[0] bug please be fixed in a patch? That, the aggressive track number removal, and sorting directories first are/were very frustrating. And sorting of directories first ideally would be optional. Or even configurable based on the content of the directory. If you have other audio files you may want it last (such as putting a bonus disc in the directory with the main album) or radix sorted if just directories (like with albums with multiple discs where you separate them in sub directories Nine_Inch_Nails/The_Fragile/CD1_{Left,Right}).

I installed Sockso to give it a go and it took me less than 5 minutes to remove it. Now I understand why it is free. Tried to start it from the shell and it told me it needed X11 to run. OK, fine I start my x server and all that. First thing it does it complain it cant do something with the database because it already exists (seems like just throwing stuff to do and ignoring if it's already done). None of the encoding appeared to be setup, and I didn't feel like having to figure that out. With Subsonic you pretty much install and go.

It seems people (you) want something for nothing. How about you go to work and whatever you work on is just given away. How much do you think you'd be paid? How many years of learning, development, and personal time does the author put into their code? If the Sindre wants to make Subsonic is he can have a residual income from it, and people are willing to pay, then good for him. He has a quality software product along with an App that integrates well.

Funny I NEVER had the issue that you are claiming, NEVER! I suggest others giving Sockso a try as just because you had an issue doesn't mean everyone else will. I have suggested sockso to many people in the past and I haven't heard a single complaint.
