External Hard Disk on Mac

Postby abeofarrell » Mon May 27, 2013 2:01 am

Good Morning folks,

Just wondering, is it possible to stream from an external hard disk connected to my Mac? If so, how do I enter the path?

Any help is very welcome.

Is your Subsonic service running on the same Mac, or on a different computer on the same network?

Yes, My server is running on my iMac, and I have an external HDD connected to it so I want to make the media within the external HDD also available to stream.

You would need to find the path first. If I remember correctly, when you plug the drive in, it should pop an icon up on the desktop. Just click on that, then go to the Finder menu and go to "Get Info". (If you have 2 mouse buttons, you can right-click on the drive icon, then click "Get Info".

Under Get Info, you should see the mounting point of the drive (I can't recall what it would be, but it will show it.) Then just use that path to enter into Subsonic, followed by the folder the music is in.

For example, if the drive is mounted as "/media/external", then you would enter "/media/external/music/" under Settings/Media Folders in Subsonic.

Thank you, but it does not have path. These are the sections:

General (kind, created, modified, format, capacity, available, used, label)
more info (last opened)
name and extension
preview
sharing and permissions

Any other ideas?

Try this:

Assume your hard disk is called

HD500

Then the path would be

/Volumes/HD500

If your hard disk has a space in its name, e.g., your hard disk is called

HD 500

then the path would be

/Volumes/HD\ 500
