Just updated to 4.9 beta 4. Using the regular web UI, trying to play back in jukebox mode, the "play" link wants my browser to download "play.m3u" play list, instead of actually play back music. Expected behaviour, or a bug?

I'm not able to reproduce this behavior. Can you please click "Settings" in the play queue, and check that the player is configured to be Jukebox, and not External player?

So im not sure if you just changed the exception handling for CannotReadExceptions but these errors only started happening with 4.9beta3. Note the read permission issues have existed on these files since before I built this server (files are mounted over nfs and previous server used the same mounts) and I have not seen these errors before. Since I havent seen these before and I know the permission issues have existed for multiple years I am assuming that their existence starting in the 4.9beta3 logs is because of a change. I will look further into the code once I get more time. Additionally the CannotReadException text is a bit misleading because it states the file is too small to read, but at least in my case that is not the case. The file is simply not readable rather than being too small to read.

Note I am running openSuse 12.2 x86_64 with tomcat6 using a war file compiled with openJDK 1.7.0_45

I think this happens because both 4.9beta3 and beta4 requires rescanning of all media files. It should only happen at the first rescan (and when you add or modify files)

sindre_mehus wrote:Thanks for the feedback! The rationale for removing the explicit download button is:

1. Having six controls next to each other (for each song) is too much, in my opinion.
2. It's (presumable) much less frequently used than the other buttons for playing/queuing songs.

Based on your comments, I have now done two minor changes that hopefully make the interface less confusing: The "Download" link is renamed to "Download all", and the "More actions..." drop-down is renamed to "Selected songs..."

Sindre

Thanks for the rationale behind it and for the adjustments to the settings you are going to make.
For the second rationale I can definitely see that especially when dealing with music, however where my users have noticed the issue most is with video. You already dont have the other buttons there functionally on that view, so it may be worthwhile implementing the download button based on the media type for each entry. Because at least from my experience more people download single videos out of a folder than single songs.

As for my exception issue thats understandable, I thought I had forced a full rescan when I made some of my modifications but that could have been longer ago than I thought. I have now fixed the permission errors on the files so no big deal. Just may want to look at changing the wording on that exception.

Thanks for all the work and for responding to my items.

I know where the not working upnp server is comming from. At the moment i've so far not found a solution.

Subsonic runs on br0 port 4040 ip 192.168.24.254, somehow browsing the shares via upnp works "fine"

When I take a look at the log files in foobar, is see that he is not able to play stream http://10.8.1.1:4040/blahblahblah.... When I manualy change this to http://192.168.24.254:4040/blahblahblah then foobar plays my song.

The 10.8.1.1 address is in use in my network, by the tun0 dev for vpn with my ios devices.. Somehow the upnp server uses this device and ip to serve the content. That's why my local network is not able to play.

Question is, how to change this setting? Looked true all files and not a single clue so far. As said before, debian6 tomcat6, oracle jave 7/45. Anybody got such issues as well?

Both IE 11 and Chrome generate a generic undefined error when loading the Home Page and randomly during other operations such as scanning the media folders.

Database refuses to update changes to tags making it virtually impossible to correct errors.

I've deleted the music folder, pressed Clean-up database, rescanned. readded, rescanned in various combinations and permutations. Finally the last attempt was successful. Clean-up db doesn't give any feedback when pressed so there's no way of knowing if anything of significance has been accomplished.

Selected an album, clicked play all, nothing happened. playlist populated, faux eq indicated track 1 was playing but no sound or progress on the player bar. clicked play button on player - no joy. clicked again on play all and album started playing.

Apache Tomcat/7.0.47, java 1.7.0_45, Windows Server 2012 (119.9 MB / 349.0 MB)

Hi Gary!

If possible, can you send a screenshot or give me access to your server so I can look into?

You're right. I noticed it myself now - happens to some songs. I will look into it.

Thanks for reporting :)

Cleaning caches in both browsers didn't help.

Thanks Gary.

I get the Error popup as well. It comes from the frame on the right (with the chat and now playing info).

I have seen this error before, but haven't been able to find the bug. I think it will go away if you restart the server. I'll see if there's anything I can do to prevent it.

Regarding the other problem (changes to tags not being reflected in Subsonic), can you tell me how you edit the tags? If you use an external tag editor, can you please check if the last-modified time of the files are updated? If not, Subsonic will not rescan the file.

4.9 Beta 4 still show the issues with certain characters I encountered with beta 3, which I had not seen with 4.8. Additionally I have noticed some issues with embedded album art (images just not being retrieved apparently) which I had not seen with version 4.8.

Example of the character issue:

The album(/directory) 'Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991–2003)' does not show up in the file tree or index at all, apparently Subsonic chokes on the dash.
And individual tracks with some non-ASCII character in their name (e.g. 'L'Hôtel particulier') show up as directory in the list for that directory.

I tried both with a 3rd party tagger and with Subsonic tagging. I'll run a test later tonight and see if either method changes the file dates.

I just played a radio in beta2 from the left menu, and I am looking for the way to stop it... Any idea?

Add an entry "Stop Radio" and point it to 127.0.0.1

Hi Sindre,

great news that we can select genre & decade in de "home.view" in the new realease.
But are we stuck by min/max of 40 albums on the page?
the option listSize doesnt seem to work anymore.

I use the listSize option in my subsonic. I take the window size and calculate the amount of albums that can be shown in the window using some javascript.

Can you please put the listSize option back in the final release?

kind regards,
Dennis

Any help would be appreciated - Still getting this error message: Status: XXXXXXXX.subsonic.org returned HTTP error code 404 Not Found. I have only received this since the beta 4 version. I have tried everything including uninstalling plus deleting subsonic folder with db info. Fresh install and getting the same message. It is rescanning my media now, but works fine on my local machine but unable to get access over the internet. I am fully licensed and have had the same address for several years through multiple revisions and never had this issue before? Any ideas?

upnp is mostly working now. It does not send the correct link to a file by default if there are multiple interfaces. Also correct metric values didnt do the trick there. stopping the vpn and bringing tun0 down did.

All tested upnp clients working now, except xbmc. Could be a xbmc issue. Anybody else that could confirm xbmc as client is not working?
